Been hammering Sizzla like nobodies business, it's been years since i've had this feeling of continually wanting to listen to a specific person. At home cooking, at work on the headphones writing stuff...

Got the big buju ones. Find Capleton's voice a bit boring and samey. Got Sean Pauls last two which i think are ace. Listening to Turbulence - Stronger than before. sounds a bit cheesey. Sizzla wise got da real thing, black woman and child, rise to the occasion, soul deep and burning up. The vybz cartel i have heard sounded a bit like gun porn. Where should i head re beenie man, bounty killer, elephant man etc?

I'm thinking 90s onwards sound-wise please.

Can't really commne ton albums (I think Sizzla is the only dancehall artist whose albums Ive really enjoyed, apart from Buccaneer's opera thing)

But Beenie Man made loads of great singles in the mid-90s. Check:
Slam
No Mama No Cry
Music A de Beat
Year 4
Heights f Great Men
Foundation
Silent Violence

a Few years earlier, and on a slightly different tip, I was playing and loving some old Tony Rebel singles recently - anyone know what he's up to now? He had a guy signed to his label called Jah Mason who's worth checking.

Tony rebel is still recording, and still running Rebel Salute every year.

As for recommendations - Ill stick to decent compilations and easy to find albums, it really is a 7" business though.

Compilations:

Jet star Ragga Hits Vol. 1 -17
Just Ragga Vols 1-10
Greensleeves reggae sampler 1-23
Ragga Ragga Ragga 1-13
Jet Star Reggae Hits 1-20
Reggae Superstars meet for the kill
Reggae Anthology: Penthouse Classics

Single artist compilations:

Jet Star Gold series
VP Reggae Anthology series

Theres a ton of stuff there, Ill add some decent artist albums tomorrow, but Im sure theres a thread around here with a lot of that stuff in already.

Ragga Ragga Ragga 1-13

i get the feeling ppl on here might not agree with me, but i reckon 'ragga ragga ragga 2008' is a really good selection, although some songs are a bit played to death. but if u havent listened to dancehall in 2008 its near spot-on

Ward 21s albums are both very good, especially the first one, 'Mentally disturbed'. really inventive production, catchy tunes, some great interplay between the different vocalists. What happened to them?

Check out the Hardcore Ragga 2 Mix or whatever it's called on Greensleeves, the one Bobby Konders put together, it's basically the best stuff off Ragga Ragga Ragga 1-6, and you can take it further from there

there are no accidents
you know, half of every year, roughly september to march, i don't listen to any dancehall. if i put on any ja music at all it's rootsy.

but the other half of the year my gun finger is almost constantly waving in the air :D

there's some pretty decent dancehall comps titled the powerhouse series that came out on VP last year. they were 3 CD for £15 or so.

Beast of Burden
The Best of Bert Ambrose & His Orchestra at the Mayfair Hotel, London, 1928-32

Hard to get, got mine in Oxfam in Canton, Cardiff. Beautiful stuff, though.

Wait, hang on a second, oh that dancehall...
