sun ra's archestra and mc5

mms

sometimes
saw this last night at the rfh.

the arkestra were amazing in their glittery african spaceman suits, marshall allen at the helm fingers all over the board in a flash. The first and last bits were lovely the middle was a bit too trad big band.
Such a lush romantic ideal carried out beautifully. The power of a single mirror ball placed over the band was entrancing too.
their vibe reminded me of this story called sister lilith in this book, dark matter, http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...31973/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_8_4/202-8129503-6872608 all ripe citric fruit clear spacious beauty.

mc5's were a waste of time with some simpson character rawk star called handsome dick manitoba fronting them. The difference between persistance with a focus and just reforming or carrying on gigging cos you were once good was self evident.

Mercury Blues
MC5 fucking killed it when they came to melb last year, fronted by Mark Arm. Unbelievably good, maybe my fave concert after Liars. Sorry to hear the new replacement isn't up to scratch.
