Upcoming stuff that might be interesting:
I've just bought tickets for this.

Also looking forward to this and this.

And very much appreciated the Nonclassical event that was posted in the events section here - does anyone know if they're still going on?

Where can I find out about upcoming concerts/recitals in London and elsewhere?

I want to see a ruddy good Beethoven symphony.

probably best to just check the Barbican site for all things- LSO or the Southbank site for all things Philharmonia / London Philharmonic / London Sinfonietta / Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment.

Both Barbican and Southbank run a good program of varied events and best of all you can get into both for under a 10er for most nights (cheap seats obviously)

What a weird list! Nice to see props for Barrett, Spahlinger, Pauset and Hespos though.

I know quite a few of them, but not all. Will look into those I don't know.

I know almost none of them. Any details?

Saw part (the arches sequence) of Birtwhistle's Mask of Orpheus recently though, it was pretty magic. Not fully staged, basically a concert performance with some slightly theatrical touches. Lovely electronic bits, though.

presumably because it's so all over the place with no cohesion what so ever?

sorry slothrop no individual details yet as i"m myself haphazardly making my way through their work one by one and piece by piece... will note the outstanding ones though (and if you like, PM you some links).

Rambler, are you familiar with any of these heads in this big flutes post? i thoroughly love most of these pieces:

i'm still very much on a scelsi / spectral kick. kind of want to find somone who fuses that kind of textural and sonic invention with the horizontality of Feldman. don't say phil nibloc though... i've had my fill of his obtuse drones for now.

charlemaign palestine has a few new releases out i think, which are all enjoyable. the apocalypse will bloom is really monotonous and in the right mood, exhilarating. there is also a very intimate solo piano concert recording with him telling stories and everything, no doubt with a glass of fine brandy in hand. lovely.

Yeah, most of them, if not the pieces themselves. Don't know why I didn't d/load those links first time around but I'll get onto that now. 'Fraid Dusapin and Hosokawa I just find dull. :slanted:

Do you know much Sciarrino? He might be your man. I see there's a flute piece there, but some of his bigger pieces might float your boat - try Il bocca, i piedi, il suono for 104 saxophones (on Col Legno, IIRC). Also Nono, especially the later stuff - Fragmente–Stille, an Diotima, A Pierre, Post-prae-ludium no.1 ‘per Donau [eschingen]’, or even Promoteo.

Worth flagging up the proms season again. Some stuff of modern(ish) interest:

and plenty of stuff that's straight up good. It's a fiver for standing tickets (which get you the best sound anyway) if you turn up and queue on the day, so it's definitely worth a punt if you've got any interest in that sort of thing.

constantly. At least one of them per day usually. I saw a string quartet in Oxford perform the Beethoven Op 131 recently and it was good, but I was very tired and they weren't as good as the quartet in this and whichever quartet played the one I have on my mp3 player (via soulseek).
