any recommended applications for expanding .rar files on a mac? i've searched some forums and some people love stuffit, but others seem to hate it. there's some freeware called RAR Expander that looks simple enough.

i'm new to the mac world, just thought i'd check here first before downloading anything. thanks.

stuffit works fine for me - I mean it all seems like a pretty simple operation so I wouldn't sweat it...?

i found stuffit would only work sometimes and other times leave files out or not entirely. unrar x no problems.

oh i remember those days in 2005/6, hessitantly dipping my toes into the bottomless ocean of online file sharing... and now 4 years later and i am drowning. HELP!

unrarx only expands though, stuffit in its bigger forms can compress as well which I've found really handy, but it is a bit sticky

Stuffit and archive utility are both built into OSX. One of them should work for pretty much all archive formats.

To compress into rar I use SimplyRAR which is quite straight forward and easy... http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21430

I've found that the Unarchiver is probably my favourite extraction app though... does rar as well... http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html
