doesnt pangaea just make really good dubstep? i dont know why his name keeps getting brought up.

It's cos Hessle, Hyperdub & Night Slugs are all exactly the same thing and must be stopped, to encourage American journos to write about London producers who sound like Kenny Dope 5 years ago instead.

Or something. ;)

yes none of the things that have been singled out here sound similar at all, good tracks that work are good tracks that work at the end of the day, and part of what funky is, beyond marcus nasty etc who just seem to play uk stuff exclusive, is about hybridisation of house.

i know what slackks saying about tasteful, thats why i love fuzzy logik, just got some energy.

Repetitive
Yeah but at the end of the day good Dubstep is actually just shit Funky. It's way too fast for a start, and why is there so much bass? Also this orange I'm eating doesn't taste anything like an apple and I blame Steve Goodman.

bassline/niche is the most exciting "hardcore continuum" strain at the moment and has been for awhile. London put up a wall to it soon after it got strong. This is a good thing as it has allowed it to continue without Guardian critics and writers getting involved. Instead we see their handiwork in the form of luke warm defensive Night Slugs and Hyperdub stuff.

is just silly. "feel the need"? Really? Has the malevolent Hyperdub / Night Slugs axis got poor innocent Mosca locked in a basement somewhere, forcing him to make "10 minute wonky/nuum/JA mashups" for their own twisted amusement? Or maybe he just happens to have written a tune he likes. That takes influence from other music he likes. Kind of similar to, you know, most producers.
Apologies if I have missed your point, but it just struck me as really weird wording.

maybe the wrong choice of words. i suppose i'm just frustrated with the fact that despite incorporating all those elements, the track doesn't really do much..

bassline/niche might be interesting if all the tracks didn't use all the same sounds and sound basically the same........

i think the tasteful argument is just as tired as the tasteless argument... the two are supposed to co-exist... that's where the screwface comes in: in the middle of a good set someone flips poles and totally throws you.
very little of the criticism being delivered here (much of which barely belongs in this thread) goes beyond the depth of the kind of dismissiveness of "real" funky which was bothering Tim to begin with.
Hessle/Burial as rhythmically weak? are you for real?! as compared to what?
The last year wouldn't have been nearly as exciting as it was, were it not for the fact that so much different disparate music was being made, in and around a field that was still at least somewhat continuous... will some of it age better than other parts? of course, when has it ever been otherwise...? you can't pretend that for every amazing vocal funky track produced, there weren't at least a good 2 or 3 gratingly obnoxious ones, anymore than you can say that every hybrid track (if that's even the proper term) was exciting and worthwhile. that's the nature of scenius, is it not?

anyhow, let's just hear more about what shows are great on Deja, and/or where else we can get a hold of interesting mixes from underrecognized producers, because we've established a while back that this is the real problem...

burial was always very open about his rhythmic cackhandedness. he said thats why he shrouded his beats in crackle. to disguise the shitness of them. that he couldnt work out how dem 2 etc got their swing. i've been consistant in saying burial is a bad joke.
but yeah obviously theres some horrible funky vocals. i dont like the larrizle thing tim put up for that reason. i also agree we should get back to finding the good stuff... lets just establish some rules. the funky thread should never ever mention any of these contentious artists again. leave it for the dubstep thread, or start a new thread. cooly g, roska, scratcha are all allowed though even though im not persoanlly into cooly g. let the funky thread just do funky.
to tom lea, the reason i picked on mosca is becuase i read the interview where he mentioned his dad. just to emphasise i dont want to talk about origins or authenticity or realness or whatever. ossie b might have been born in jamaica for all i know but his jamacian accent is still horrible. rikos sounds good. some people are good at what they do, some people are bad at it. who their parents are is a side-issue.

i like what this guy does...on his own and with calisko this mix feature l-vis 1990 you will be pleased to note.
tracklisting provided.
Your Love - Fully Kurrupted Feat. Wayne Paul sounded nice and the one after is on a belgium hardcore tip or something. quite deep. i guess i am gravitating more towards the less fun things. does this count as a bit techy? what weeksey and these guys are pushing?
Lush - Skepta Feat. Jay Sean (Fuzzy Logik Remix) im not going to lie...i think this is really pretty and charming.
Roller - Smoove Kriminal if i heard this on its own my reaction might be like mass rocks one underneath but ive heard it on a few mixes now and its always a highlight for me
The Good Times - Murdz 86 love this bass sound
Dead Set - Gridlockd Muzik like this a lot
Gutter - Smoove Kriminal 'more on the techy house tip' apparently... i like it
Home Made - Gridlockd Muzik this is similar and even better...i like the few thing ive heard from this camp
http://www.myspace.com/gridlockdmuzik
actually this section of the show is very big..three biggies all in a row... next smoov kriminal is a real pleasure...mmmmmm love this one
if im being crtical i could do with a few more massive grin on the face crazy cousins type moments but otherwise this is a show i apporve of and a producer i endorse with the presidential seal.
ossie- http://www.facebook.com/ossieproducer#/ossieproducer?v=wall
free track from ossie.
also why dont we fall in love remix destroys any rustie hud mo r&b experiment.... gorgeous.... not weird or wonky or even house really
ruffy-features a song called im a musical genius! http://www.myspace.com/rufftingz grime on the myspace still
his whiskey tune sounds like some 1991thing with the funky drums

bascially a lot of this stuff is newham boys and if you wanted to hear funky go grime then check the background....
