hes a badman, seen him play for something like 5 hours straight in Bristol, proper hype shouting out to the crowd and dancing all the way through. Funny watching all the yardies at the front looking deadly serious for ages then after a couple of hours all the lighters are coming out etc. He pretty much exclusivley played his own dubplates aswell.

Been watching a ton of the vids this evening & I think I want to BE Rodigan! He looks like hes been having an amzing time for a very long time. Too many good bits to list, but hes like a polite assassin in this one, playing Supercat against Jaro...

Round before that possibly even more mental:
and bloody hell: - the moment where he drops the Cocoa tea tune is amazing.

Yeah, thats great. Theres loads of 'ultimate rush' moments in the whole clash. My own fave is the Bounty Killer Sleng Teng on this one: , but I think the sorta apologetic way he dispatches Jaro with a tune from his enormous back catalogue by one of their own DJs (Supercat) is particularly ace! He basically only loses the final round cos he opts for a history lesson with some Phyllis Dillon - true to his game or what?!!

Much as he is a legend - he depends too much on a small selection of dubs - Bounty Killers down in the ghetto, Garnett's let them talk, that Tubbys cut of No, no, no, the Prince Buster, Ini Kamozie's world of reggae music... listen to a few of his clashes and you'll hear the same tunes repeatedly.

There's a 80s/90s deejay called Junior Rodigan. Nothing special though.

I noticed mention of a Lady Rodigan online too - dunno if thats connected?!

Yeah, he definitely loves the Dawn Penn - I know he's compiled that onto one of those Rewind Selectas too. I guess the man's gonna have his signatures. I only play records at parties once every few years really, but I still seem to play Coldcut's "Say Kids" just about every time  Its pretty heavyweight him having all that Dennis Brown etc etc - someone coming into dub-cutting now sure ain't gonna get any Dennis Brown dubs :(

Oh yeah - the Dennis Brown too.

Of course, if you had those tunes you'd play them all the time too - BUT it makes him very predictable unlike a lot of 'jobbing' sounds (esp. your Jaros, Odysseys etc...) who have a wider selection of dubs from every era.

He's certainly got an almost novelty entertainment value fromm the clips ive seen on Youtube. But I guess that what you need sometimes. There's one clash were he comes on in an Elvis costume iirc . . .

Looks like that clash was at the Stratfore Rex.

Yeah, no disrespect at all to Killamanjaro (who I usually pick a tape by when I go & buy a soundsystem tape) or any of the many others...
