Yeah, this is becoming more and more common given the difficulty in giving old plates a proper release. There's at least 2 versions of the unreleased SS/Mastersafe remix of Champion sound, one of which got a release on sublogic:


I was obsessed with this tune for years, but it was never ever coming out - I know cos we tried to put it out and thats what DJ SS told us...

by far my favourite jungle...didnt know there was a name for it tho! It had it all...darkside + lightside synths, heavy bass and tearing beats. doc scott and Randall played a fair bit of this is 1993 (check out their Dance Trance sets)...been rinsing this pirate set recently http://www.hardscore.com/?p=2161 which i think fits into this.

That DJ Mayhem is amazing - been after that for time!:)

^^ that's the work of tom middleton + mark pritchard, who did a bunch of awesome things together in the 90s. I posted it upthread in reference to "epic jungle". it is indeed a total corker of a tune. here is pritchard's earlier darkside work, also fantastic.

^ Never realized Mark Pritchard was behind the Chaos & Julia Set stuff, you learn something new every day. The 'Sub Base Field mix' of Atmopshere is a percy, so intense.

It's not exactly an official name.. ;) .
Yeah Randall is def a DJ I associate with that kind of sound, have heard some amazing old tapes of his. Think he has to be one of the best guys ever just in terms of pure beatmatching, like he could put tunes with most complicated beats together, hold down the mix for ages and make it sound like a great combination even when you wouldn't expect it.
