Space to discuss small run stuff. 'Editions'. I don't think it quite fits anywhere else, cos I'm on about the form here. Small things, less than 100 pages certainly, probably much less more. Made at home, or on a small commercial scale. Not quite proper publishing. I have made zines, buy loads.

Some names to get us started:

Amphetamine sulphate: Philip bests new project.

Rough trade editions: getting established people from music to do little one offs.

2dcloud: American art comics, sort of dead now cos they had a metoo/sex scandal.

I've got one of catalogs. I make at least a couple every year. The blogger Simon silverdollar circle is visiting me today to talk about this weirdly enough. He's been doing it too.

John Eden was a big name in the 70s fanzine world I think.

As I and others have said elsewhere, you can't sell music now, so it's little books instead. Cos reading more than a chapter on your phone is tricky

I've just ordered loads of the rough trade and amp sulphate ones, so I'll report back with reviews once I've read em

I'm making one at the moment which is just the bits of Genet's 'prisoner of love' that I liked. 10 pages of extracts basically. Warm up. Everything's a warm up.

What I haven't worked out how to do is sell 'em. I sell a few from my 'stall' but that's about it.

Did you get anywhere with making the 'dematerialisation' thread into a pamphlet? That would be a good short project. Challenge would be how to edit the voices and all the quoting. Also the links. The form of this forum is almost anti-book, in that there's the ability to be non-linear. Whereas the pamphlet is of course in order. Could be done though.

No. Dissensus is weird. Sometimes everything converges and sometimes it all falls apart. You fall in and out of love with it. There's these waves.

In theory you could do a whole series of dissensus pamphlets but it feels like a waste of time if you can't find a audience.

Yeah I mean you might sell 5 or something. It's more about codifying it into a persistent form though, than selling owt. For me anyway

I always feel like it would be nice to create a scene though tbh. Some reciprocation. Synergy. Positive feedback loops. Excitement. Engagement. Participation. Quickening. Sometimes dissensus feels exciting as I say. The blogs did for a year or two. It's heroic ploughing a lonely furrow, but it's far from ideal.

If you distilled one good thread into a 24 page book that you could sell for between £5 and £10, you would open up the possibility of a new audience.

There's a potential audience I'm convinced of it. But I have no idea how to find it.

I'm much more of a zine consumer than a zine producer.

Manlike Reynolds talked to me about it:

I did a couple of scrappy zines last decade and it was fun but then I ran out of steam.

For me it was pretty easy getting rid of 200/300 zines but they were about niche music so there is already an audience for them and also people who would stock them in their distros.

Another poster here is working on one that I am quite excited about.
