I work with some people I dislike, some I even dislike irrationally, (although none for their racial origin I must add) and on a professional level do shut off the part of my brain which dislikes them to deal with them in the way I have to. Why shouldn't a racist be able to do this?

do you mean the particular area he's in (slavonic studies)? Exam marking tends to be blind, and I don't think the students are complaining about bias in his teaching. Seems a little thought-policey to start suggesting sacking people for things they do unconsciously, or 'implicitly'

Good music being used to endorse products is a necessary evil, I think - i like that people who've made good music can get paid for it, but marketing is pretty disgusting...
In terms of actions, I'm not sure that denying the use of your music to a corporation is going to achieve too much.
And I agree that the stance 'we won't sell our music to Hummer' is ill-thought-out at best.
apparently it was andy bell who wrote all those dreadful ride lyrics. actually vapour trail is quite sweet. but once you could actually hear the words well on 'carnival of light' you became aware of gems such as
'you are the crown of creation / i'm getting off at your station / oh oh oh oh'
