The Red Hot Chilli Peppers thread (not much love to be found here)

I met Flea at a Fela show in L.A. in 1990. He's a nice guy, sincere about what he does. He comes across like a hippie idiot sometimes (like in that message above) but whatever. I haven't liked one of their records since BSSM - the first half of that one was pretty good, but everything from "Give...

Why are there no good UK metal/hard rock bands anymore..

I guess I'm the lone dissenter - Jesu do almost nothing for me. Too pretty. Things I like at present: the Trivium album (reissued with four bonus tracks, one of which is a cover of "Master Of Puppets" that's ass-rapingly great), the new Killing Joke disc (though I've always felt Napalm Death...

    worst musical experience?

I, too, saw Tricky live in 1997, in NYC...total darkness onstage for most of the set, the music utterly pointless and awful (I say this despite the fact that Pre-Millennium Tension still gets played around my house quite a bit), and he had some useless rappers as his opening act (the guys...

    The Politics of Music Journalism

I have some friends who are musicians, and whose work I like quite a bit. I don't make mention of it in the reviews, because I was an admirer of the work before seeking them out on a personal level. Generally I think it's possible to review a record by even a close friend honestly. The thing I...
