    Books about 20th Century Classical

Another Arnold Whittall book that's also good, if fairly heavily analytical at times: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=2oEreRbGLdcC&dq=arnold+whittall&source=gbs_summary_s&cad=0

Thanks - this seems to work. Was using mouse rather than keyboard to input patterns before.

    ableton tutorial

Been familiarizing myself with Ableton this week trying to produce beats. It does seem pretty intuitive on the whole and the tutorials are good. I normally find program tutorials to be a pointless waste of time but in this case I think it's worthwhile spending a few hours working through them...

    Buying records

Re: record collectors. There's a chapter in Evan Eisenberg's The Recording Angel about an old guy who has spent so much on records over the years he can no longer afford to eat and lives in pitiful squalor in a house that creaks with the weight of tons of vinyl. Once he has acquired them though...

    Buying records

I went on this training course on how to back up your work safely (it was a fun day out) where we were told that CDs last '2-20 years'. Which seems like a ridiculously wide range, but I suppose it depends on whether you have them knocking around in your car out of the box or not. But two years...

    Rock Against Racism '08

I'm a woman living in the UK. The word 'cunt' is normally used to describe men - or people in general - rather than women, and I certainly don't hear it as sexist at all when used in this manner. 'Cunt' is not normally used to describe a woman - at least I've never heard it used this way. If you...

    Dubstep

Shame I missed that last half hour - left at about 9. I'm pretty sure he played the other side of the Hessle Audio EP earlier on, the Broken Heart Martyn's DCM remix, which for me is just the most magical track around at the moment (tho the Ramadanman rmx is also ace!). Love the way it creates...

Berlin - whither should I go?

Lol, if you're after the Bab you can't do better than this place in Ostbahnhof (yes, weirdly, there is good food to be bought in the station). Open 24 hours, the doner is seriously decent and they also do beer. Can't remember the name unfortunately but it's pretty obvious which one it is once...

    Tom Cruise scientology video

    Tom Cruise scientology video

What was with the editing though? I mean, it just seemed like a series of snapshots or soundbites interrupted by those weird subliminal flashes. Might it have made a bit more sense if the clips had been in the right order? Was this a genuine Scientology video designed to influence members and...

    Chicken in the UK

Ah I didn't see this. Is this true? If so poor you petergunn! Have heard horror stories about the Deep South, about not being able to get any fruit at all except fried green tomatoes. Maybe you should start going on guerilla vegetable digs or raiding orchards, or 'scrumping' as we say in the UK. :)
