    Noise/techno.

Has there ever not been a corner of the music world that isn't noise+(current genre) for the last few decades? You had labels like Six Sixty Six in the 90s for the acid / gabber / hard techno crossover; you had the industrial / power noise people crossing over from the "other side"; breakcore...

    burial dj kicks mix

Amazon is under the impression it's been pushed back to November 11th already. I assume the real release date is "someday"?

    comics

Thread needs more New Frontier. http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=5886 The $75 I spent on the Ultimate hardcover boxed edition was the best $75 I've ever spent in comics. If I were going to recommend one single comic to anyone, even people who don't read a lot of tights and powers...

what are your favourite grime slang terms?

I love the increasing frequency with which I hear MCs addressing people as "blood." The mental image of a bunch of bloods and a bunch of grime MCs meeting in confusion is great. Maybe some Eazy-E over a garridge riddim is the bridge! East LA<->East London.

    Doom Metal

I always have to throw a shout out to Thorr's Hammer when doom comes up. It looks like my fave track by them is at least an mp3 clip here too: http://www.southernlord.com/hammer.htm That track "Norge" just pwnz me for slow doomy fairly black metallish stuff ... sludgey viking doom with witchy...

'Canonical'-type shit you just don't get

I really just wanted to respond to Martin saying: >But surely 'the canon' is a complete fabrication, as it's an arbitrary signifier that undergoes constant >flux...oh fuck me, I nearly did a sensible post! Er, imagine Parminder Nagra all gothed out! Oh my god, Parminder Nagra all gothed out...

Gangsta Walking and aggressive communal dance

Well for sure. At speedcore parties around here it used to be even more overt. Instead of slamming into each other at high speed, everyone would bounce up and down, shoulder to shoulder, packed like sardines, for hours. You could cut the tweaky homoerotic tension with a knife. I think if you...

Gangsta Walking and aggressive communal dance

puretokyo: It is pretty funny, along with "word is born"/"word is bond", I've had people very emphatically explain to both to me as being the expression and give big backstories and everything. I love how phonic muddly uncertainty has really pretty much made the expression "word is bon" and it...

    how do you hear music?

Wow, very interesting thread. Two things which may be a bit tangential to this but pop out in my mind: I always think it's interesting that nearly all pop music (in the slightly older fashioned pre-hip hop present day sense) is based obviously around melody and the lyrics which are going along...

Gangsta Walking and aggressive communal dance

I've only ever heard of having a "gangsta lean" in the context of driving. Slouched down at an angle to provide a smaller target (or more likely to look like one is obviously trying to present a smaller target).
