questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

I don't know if it's used correctly on those records, but at work (I'm a sound engineer) the PA mix is usually a print of the mix with the lead vocal muted, but with all other backing vocals left in the mix. And therefore can be used for live performances, i.e. the singer performing the lead...

Pitiless police persecute Plastic People. Punters pissed.

Tried to reach FWD this Thurs because Chef/Braiden/Marcus Nasty/Pangaea lineup just sounded too good to miss... Both myself and my two female friends were pretty much subjected to everything short of a strip search, they literally went through EVERYTHING I fucking had, searching between pages...

    London hotel/restaurant recommendations

Sanderson/St Martins Lane for hotel. And that recommendation is DESPITE the fact that I've worked at both, as usually having been behind the scenes at a place is usually enough to ensure that you recommend that people should stay away from there. Just make sure you book a deluxe or above...

    Paying for Dissensus

$25... I know it's not much but every little helps, while I rarely post Dissensus has been a true goldmine of information and one of the few places I can think of on the internet where sustained, intelligent discourse occurs

It's Eliane Radigue... and if you want to go all the way and say her name in a pseudo-French accent, Eh-li-anne Ra-deeg will get you close

    Sounds familiar? (Synecdoche NY)

Good artists borrow, great artists steal... the only factors beyond that are getting caught and/or completely outdoing the previous work

    cursing

Disagree! In French a string of expletives can reach as far as your vocabulary will allow, as you can extend by placing "de" in between each swear word. A bit like saying "son of a bitch", but more like "son of a bitch of a cunt of a shit of a dickhead" etc. etc.. Doesn't really grammatically...

    The accents thread

I'm curious about the nature of people's drunk voices. Does it represent the accent that has been the most longstanding influence over yours (in my case, my Scottish grandmother for 13 years) or the way that you would like to sound, propelled by drink..?

    The accents thread

I have an absolute car crash of an accent... I lived outside of England until I was eight and was forced to acquire an English accent when I moved here to avoid ridicule at school. But, thanks to a Scottish grandmother, American relatives, a Scouser girlfriend, a best friend who's from Brixton...

    Reynolds hardcore continuum event

I'd love to ask Reynolds to take a second look at the 2-step/dubstep extension of the continuum as he pretty much wrote it off at a fairly early stage, 2step due to garage's champagne/cocaine culture and dubstep because he considered it boring Considering that one face of dubstep seems to be...

Things You've Always Wanted To Know

Also reheated rice is fine as long as it's cooled down enough before going in the fridge. In Singapore (where it's way more humid) most people will not reheat rice the next day but use it for fried rice, but over here I've just reheated rice the next day (and sometimes even the day after, but I...

Things You've Always Wanted To Know

Traditional Chinese method The best way to cook rice, as endorsed by the vast majority of Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese/etc...: (the key is a tight fitting lid, as the objective is to steam the rice, not boil it) 1. Measure out rice, taking note of how many bowls/cups/whatevers 2. Rinse rice to get...
