What PostPunk has RIU&SA make you drolly over?

I've been on the Thomas Leer tip too, but those records are just impossible to track down. I did find some passable quality mp3s of the "International" single though. It's all pretty much in print...the Contradictions CD on Cherry Red and the Scale of Ten cd on Arista/BMI or something? The...

SPARKS - the greatest UK glam/fey rockers ever!!

Likewise in NYC, Sparks get played all the time. Beat the Clock was the record to play, other tracks from No. 1 Song in Heaven, esp No. 1 Song in Heaven get plenty of play, and I've been known to play When I'm With You and Eaten by the Monster of Love.

SPARKS - the greatest UK glam/fey rockers ever!!

first they were heavy art-rock man, then they were smart bubble-gum glam, then they were futuristic italian space disco, then they invented New Wave, then they were a silly pop band, then they were kind of a funnier pet shop boys, then they put out a weird art record that's funny and strange...

SPARKS - the greatest UK glam/fey rockers ever!!

fans of those early/mid 70s sparks records should check out the first 2 Deaf School records, a continuation of the neo-cabaret Roxy art-school glam with not a few Sparks-worthwhile moments from under-appreciated songwriter Clive Langer.

    Baldelli Tracks

they're not all still up, but the mp3 "blog" bumrocks: http://www.bumrocks.com/ has posted a bunch of these tracks, lots of cosmic, italo instrumentals etc. Pretty consistently good stuff and I'm sad I started checking it out so late. I downloaded the Baldelli mixes from Gomma and love them...

    Byron Coley

the best things were the footnotes in Forced Exposure, often taking up more space then the actual interviews. I particularly remember the interview with Chris Knox.

    Who killed Indie?

bored at work and looking at old threads I posted on... Andy Galkin was a regular at my party as well, probably there when Tim's brother DJ'd, it's a small world. Andy DJ'd with me at the last friday at Plant Bar before they shut down for remodeling and the removal of the DJ booth. Fun times...

    NME C86 in MP3 format (aka .022)

c86 having listened to it a bit recently the first thing that comes to mind is the fact that the material on c86 really has a bit more in common with the jangly post-punk that it follows (Nightingales, Orange Juice, Josef K) then the sugary twee pop that came next, and continues to use the...

    eBay finds for da massive.

Glaxo Babies hello, very occasional poster here, just want to comment on Glaxo Babies. They were a weird band that featured a major line-up and sound change, so they have 2 distinct styles, and within each of those styles, quite a bit of variety. Initially they were a post-punk rock band who...

    art into pop--abiding or ailing?

Risd but the pink elephant int he middle of the room of a discussion like this is RISD. Beyond Talking Heads and that indie-rock band who's name i can't remember, it spawned that entire Lighting Bolt type scene.

    art into pop--abiding or ailing?

here's the oberlin deal... while the conservatory helps create a musical environment, most of the music people are in the college, and not usually the art department. I think a big factor was the influence of Dave Toddarello who ran Sound Sensations Imports and later the Co-Op record store, and...

    Who killed Indie?

"most recently, i was surprised to discover that Tim Goldsworthy of DFA -- and before that, of Mo Wax and UNKLE -- had been heavily into C86" I'm trying to remember, Tim has an older brother or something who was a real scenester, was in some band. Back when I did Plant Bar on mondays my friend...

    Patrick Cowley

cowley/bobby "o" etc matt, you'd have to figure I'd pop up when I found this thread. Bobby "O" and Patrick Cowley are like the twin pedestals of Hi-NRG. And of course the Evelyn Thomas song "High Energy". Bobby O's hilarious because his sound is so totally his own, and it's not really a sound...
