    rolling blogariddims thread

me too; this is cool. took a bit longer to get into than some of the others, but really liking this more and more. i really dig the way there's so much variety here - this mix series is really something special. i'm hooked anyway. is there a rough idea of who's going to be doing the next...

    grime mc's on d&b/jungle

don't get me wrong I don't want anyone to get bent out of shape over this (and i guess it's been mentioned before and OT and all :)), but...WHY do ppl encode poor-quality recordings at 256k, like this one? that's 2MB per minute FFS! surely stuff like this is broadcast at 96 or less anyway

    music swapping

stop me if this is an old suggestion, but there must be people living in all sorts of countries in here...i'm always keen to get hold of local music wherever i go, even if it's just going into a shop and buying ten tapes at random. so the thought occurs - is anyone else interested in this...

which country is responsible for the worst music?

o sorry to revive an old thread but have been in the jungle thought this might be interesting, I've been listening on shortwave http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/the_music_feature.shtml "Don't Touch That Dial gives DJs around the world a chance to bring their finest local music to...

who are you going to vote for and why?

politicians don't really interest me much; they rarely put anything in their manifestos i feel fired up by (more coppers? muh) and i got a surprise the other day when i looked at my (conservative) MP's voting record and found that I agreed with about 90% of his behaviour in parliament in terms...

Is the internet really good enough?

definitely, but aren't these blogs just the equivalent of the quarterly magazines? if you took the best of the music blogs there would be far too much excellent stuff to fill a weekly that would kick the arse of nme. reading blogs takes time, and the biggest problem is it takes reasonably...

    Richard Dawkins.

i like the teasing, i think a good teasing is needed. not ridicule or belittling but proper challenges to what otherwise goes unquestioned. some of his letters to the guardian though, i'm like richard you sound like a sixth former! stop it now before it gets embarrassing! mind you, he's shit...

    Books that changed you

this is an excellent question! i thought about this for ages, but although I'm reasonably well-read (at least for a scientist!), the books that honestly "profoundly affected you, so much so that you can think of your life in terms of before and after you read them." are children's books. not...

what do people use to cut up mp3s?

audacity's dead easy; unless you're having problems installing it, just run it and all should be pretty straightforward - highlight and copy/paste - you can do simple things like fade in/out, add silence too. the thing with audacity is that it decodes and re-encodes the mp3 (i think) so may...

which country is responsible for the worst music?

right, i'm going to bang my particular obscure drum: sri lanka. i have never been to a country and so thoroughly disliked every single thing I've heard. It's all almost exactly the same: like one of those casio keyboard auto-chord backing tracks endlessly looped, then sung over tunelessly...

    grime worldwide?

oho...that's interesting, because the first time i heard grime (think it was plasticman or jon e cash) i thought 'oh this sounds a bit like Mr Oizo'. or similar; that dry low-tech paris stuff from about 6 years ago. maybe that sort of production sound has been around in france for long enough...
