Da Crunked Up Southern Rap thread

This is a wonderfully inane new crunk-ish one, which people may already be aware of, something to do with this US 'dance challenge' online nonsense which I'm just catching up with (see also New Jersey thread):

Never seem to come on here now (I always forget to keep a link to the forum & it seems to be difficult to find on Google now - deliberate?!). Anyway, I thought this was worth mentioning - I've missed all this US kids' 'dance challenge' stuff til now, but there's one or two goodies lurking in...

    Aphex File Dump

    Aphex File Dump

I've been enjoying this greatly. Career-spanning outtakes boxset in the making? Some stuff uberfans will know, some junk, mainly great vintage.

Guess who is ghostwriting wiley autobiography?

Blimey, interesting act to focus on ;-) The go go one I'm reading at the mo is similarly frustrating....loads of interesting-in-theory stuff on churches, marching bands, local politics...and not quite enough (so far) on the actual history of the music its meant to be about...

    DC Go Go

I thought there was a thread on this, but I can't find it...Writing a coupla pages on it for one of the mags...Got a buncha records, downloads, fairly up to date with more recent developments, read the Joey Negro thing, got the book, seen a coupla documentaries & tmottgogo....Anything I might be...

Guess who is ghostwriting wiley autobiography?

Somebody definitely should do a grime book...there's one on amazon that looks like a photo thing that I never checked out, but it needs a history really...

    Reggae Mixes / Live recordings

That Mikey (Micky?) Glamour someone mentioned upthread had an absurd amount of reggae mixes last time I looked, variety of eras from memory. Listened to the Dave Katz Lee Perry episodes of On The Wire at the weekend - very good (but not as good as the book - WOW!). You just have to get used to...

    The sacred cows

On U Sound: again, I'm not saying I dislike em, much of it is great, but I wouldn't say anywhere near all that 80s stuff has aged well yet you never hear anyone saying that...

What is the worst thing you've heard this year?

Late on this one as well...Did she see "Asian Girlz" & think "Hmmmm, I could do a spin-off from this!"?!

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

Wiley (!) "Ski Slope" (B side of "Freeze"): No-one ever mentions this one (& check the lowish viewcount again). Its a lot goofier than his other instros from the time, but I go back to it loads. Just good fun:

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

UU Madoo & Papa San: Great cheesy dancehall collabo: no-one I've played it to has shown any interest & my occasional references to it online sink like a lead balloon as well -

Snagga Puss "Caan Cook": I have a soft spot for one-trick pony ragga deejays & chauvinist ragga is preferable to misogynist ragga, so...Lowish viewcount again: Daddy Lizard "Gal You Lazy" is another 'classic' in this style, but I can't see a vid of that.

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

Po! Again these guys aren't totally unknown - they did quite a few records & I guess were kinda well-known on that twee scene. They had a decent website about ten years ago but it lapsed & I believe they do sensible things now like teach etc. The name's a bit hard to google. I suppose people...

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

Papa Sprain: these guys aren't exactly unknown but they never get nearly enough dues. Shunned a bit at the time for the interconnected but nowhere near as good Butterfly Child. Did a great Peel session & three EPs, all of which were very intriguing but May the best. Tunes all sound totally...

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

J Pac "Nutter": Another one I got a promo of, didn't catch onto & then picked up on later when going through stuff. Their other stuff never caught me & they're obviously on many levels terrible but its great pop & like the Catch one, you wonder how they were thinking the lyrics were chart...

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

This one was probably a 'hit' but I just don't get why you don't hear about it more cos its the same rapper as on Dominator & this mix is as good (if not quite such a revelation cos its from a coupla years later). Sorta same bracket as the Mid-town ones from before. Intense. I love tracky...

Personal Anthems (cos no-one else appreciates them)

Fruitcake (Drunks With Guns spin-off). Another Peel play. Don't know quite what it is that I like about this band - their other stuff is ace as well, but this is my favourite still. Sorta Shadows-y but lo-fi as anything, stupid yet creepy vocal effect, pushed into overdrive at the end. What were...
