Yeah I mean it's a great track, I just thought you were using it as an example of quality on behalf of the post-dubstep sound.

Awesome. perhaps a little early to declare the death of the uk-nuum imo. there are future lineages to come and die also.

i think some nuumists read Energy Flash like socialists read Das Kapital.
they won't enjoy post nuum music, not ever.
Its somewhat similar to that true-school golden-age hip hop school, isnt it

can def respect that however, the allegiance to a set of principles

Yeah dunno. Never read Energy Flash. I do think it's the end of it though, certainly of Rinse as a cultural phenomenon. The Event happened - they're all over the charts. It's everywhere you look. I'm not knocking it, it's just the truth. And, in philosophical terms, the Event creates its own chaos, and its own re-reading of what came before it.

If it counts as whatever this music is, I must say that logos' stuff is uniformly excellent, really disappointed I couldn't see his set last night to be honest. Quite interesting percussion as well, though I'm not entirely sure how that sort of stuff would go down in a club. Will find out soon enough I guess.
yeah gotta agree with that, the couple of things i've heard by him have really stood out, great bass melodies and loads of space. take a brave selector to slam one of those on in a bubbling dance tho.

but lacks originality

Great quote on dsf in response to the Blackdown piece.

heard the word brostep at least 3 times in there.

instantly took it less seriously

this is also good, brostep is a derogatory term and his use of it indicates that he isn't taking an objective approach when analysing 'future' bass music. thus his opinion holds less value.
the point in the quote is quite valid imo.
once you hold a negative complex over a certain style of music, as a music critic, you will always unfairly judge when you come across it.

anyway all this post dubstep shit to me is the marginalized dubstep crowd making house and passing themselves off as original whilst largely ignoring the existence of uk funky which preceded it and citing shit like kwaito as predominant influences whilst there has always been a source of 'rude' house flourishing in london for the past 5 years.

I've read part of this thread, it was an interesting discussion. I'm still confused what this topic is about though. Would someone, by any chance be able to provide a summary of what went on in this topic and what the general consensus is?

Is this thread about the a continuity between genres in the UK, from hardcore to jungle, uk garage to dubstep + grime and now funky?

I'm assuming most people here disagree with this?

logos's set was really, really good - saturday night london crowd tho, majority dancing then when he went into more of his own tunes a lot of them backed off. i thought it was great tho.

I think it is fair game to use the term brostep in a balanced argument. It is a pejorative that has achieved melioration/amelioration these days in the same way that 'grime' was originally a diss to dark/rudeboy/kid garage and then adopted by the upstarts. Loads of people, especially in the US use brostep as a description for the type of music they play or listen to. See also: neo-conservatism, cubism/fauvism.

This is what I assume most people on here believe in (the hardcore continuum, explained here by Simon Reynolds, who as far as I understand it coined the term... read 'Energy Flash'). This thread (the discussion/argument part anyway) is about music which is being made by ex-dubstep producers/heads who have generally been put off dubstep by ear-bleed wobble assault tunes and are now making self-consciously 'hybrid' music, often cherry-picking from past genres in the continuum for ideas/sounds/rhythms etc. The debate revolves around the quality/lack-thereof of this music (and the meaningfulness/unity of the 'scene' surrounding it) - and whether or not the idea of the hardcore continuum has any bearing on or sheds any light on this debate. For some, the hardcore continuum is a concept which is no longer relevant.

so i just spent a nice afternoon with my cousin pablo and some of his mates from goldsmiths. they're all nice guys who like to show me some good tunes. i have a lot to thank them for especially pablo.

anyway, i was saying how i rejoined dissensus and how there were loads of nice people who were willing to teach me stuff but the only people i've had trouble from was dan hancox (my fault sorry Dan ) and Slackk.

that's when one of them told me a little story about how slackk doesn't just like to steal from grime producers, apparently ROSKA ROSKA ROSKA is his inspiration too

You just stepped over the mark you little cunt. That's not funny, and it's unpleasant.

Leave, juanroberto. Really. Just leave. And don't come back. It was fun while it lasted. Thanks. Bye.

lol a Harry Enfield reference you know. Really? The paucity of your attack's a bit sad really- it's a satire of Brookside, am I meant to get angry and kick off because you're saying I have curly hair?

The drums "issue" in Fire Flies was addressed by the label before release. I have nothibg to hide.

The idea of the internet antagonist is a weird one to me, seems like a lot of effort on your part with no real reward. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the only person who cares about what yr saying is you.

fine i will leave but remember when people were posting photos of dead drug dealers in response to me????

did you ask them to leave?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

and FYI MRSLOANE lots of people on youtube say that REAL scourers find that funny

i was relating to how a 'rude' black producer was pissed off that a white 'outsider' stole one of his beats and made money out of it. i'm glad you are ok with that if i was going to stay longer i would make a "beats slackk can copy and make money from thread". still i'm not wanted here.

see you all at plastic people some time

JR

For what it's worth I do find the scousers skits quite funny but it's a bit dated really. Why not post videos of scouse house or Shooters? At least they're semi-relevant.

Oh and hello Alex. You have my number I think, or email at least. Say hello.

Personal attacks on the net are fine if they address a person's work - it's the the public eye, that's cool - but when it gets to where they're from I fuckin draw the line.

Unless juanroberton was you slackk and you're having an episode.
