Going to Memphis, Jackson and New Orleans - travel tips needed!

Hi everyone,

next week I'll be doing a small southern road trip visiting Memphis, Jackson and New Orleans.

I'm not stopping very long in each city so advise would be very much appreciated! If anyone familiar with these cities and routes sees this post.

What I'd most like to explore is:

- good music / music history
- history in general
- architecture
- good food
- regular city life / people watching
- anything else that could be of interest!

All general advise would also help:

- what districts to stay in
- where to sleep (does not have to be fancy)
....etc.

I'll have a car.

as you already know NO is mobilizing to deal with what just might be the biggest oil spill in US history.
Dunno much of anything about Memphis or Jackson , but some Googling / Trip Advisor'ing around for exactly what you asked for -

Added: Just watching new right now - Memphis flooding yesterday and into today , so well worth checking into all ...
