roll deep - in at the deep end

This is one of those things that I think is kind of perplexing, the idea that doing straight grime is the route to failure, that you have to go down the hip-hop/rnb route. When has UK Hip-Hop ever been that big?

And it's not like the UK charts have historically been resistant to up-tempo stuff. Bizarre reasoning going on.

I see Wiley and Kano are appearing at the Junction in Cambridge this Saturday (with DJSS upstairs - what's he doing these days?). What are the chances of either Wiley or Kano turning up at all, and is it likely they'll be any good live?

I saw Kano at a truly woeful Streets gig in Brixton last year and can't say I was too impressed, but still keen to go this Sa'day.

Wiley, tinchy stryder + crew were at clare cellars (cambridge) last friday despite much suspicion they wouldnt show. heavy heavy night. not seen cambridge uni crowds that rowdy, ever, i think.

Is this the album that came out yesterday?

it is extremely disappointing that 'commercialising' their sound is the route that was decided for this. it is impossible to justify and worse, it is hardly surprising.

That's the last venue on Earth I'd expect to see them, so I'm surprised and impressed. Tell us more, how did it work out? Any hope of a townie like me gaining entry to somewhere like that the next time around?

It's a damn shame, that even though several tracks are apparently being added to the LP, including "Poltergeist Relay" remix, that the LP as it is, is an embarrasing hip-hop/r'n'b hybrid - i just can't believe the reviews i've read saying how massive, and 'over big' the LP is. I love Roll Deep. Wiley is a great producer. "When I'm Ere" is friggin amazing. But "Bus Stop," "Good Girl," now apparently featuring J2K ... not saying much at all.

My respect for Diz, has doubled since "In at the Deep End" arrived at the yard. Can't wait for Dylan's next LP, all i know so far is that Wonder has done another track for him... and "Respect Me" is a personal fav so fingers crossed.

When does Creeper 1 + 2 come out? I'm sure these will be more consistent...

this album is wicked. wileys throws another curveball to the scene.

theres some boring tunes but every album has boring stuff on it. I dont really see this as "commercial" (or in fatc that commercial is a bad thing), all the 80s soul cheese doesnt seem like its gonna sit that well with the pop market, and if it does then all i can say is "nice 1!". bring the slap bass.

I think this will be a commercial failure, but i think wiley and that lot have got balls to put it out.

not all curveballs are good though. of course its commercial! cant see it doing well though. stuff like this only seems to do well if its by black eyed peas or big brovaz.

Not heard 'Flying Away' or 'Bus Stop'.

Don't really like 'Show You', 'Be Careful', 'The Avenue' (love the remix though), or 'Good Girl'

Like the rest though. I'll be buying it.

Interesting that it's only 12 tracks. I got the one that was leaked last year off Soulseek and that was 20.

here's the cover for everyone to see it on this thread:

whoa! that's a psychedelic cover. do you think that each figure represents an individual member of the entourage?

i would say the cover goes summat like....

front row, left to right: discarda, target, breeze, riko, wiley, maximum, flo-dan, danny weed, brazen

back row: tommy guns, jet li, trim, scratchy

of course thats mostly based on little to no evidence... appart from scratchers top-not

more importantly where's scum dave?
