someone help me out here - galloway and the oil thing, new or just a rehash of previous allegations? a smear or yet more proof of his rascal ways? someone so obviously oleaginous yet i can't help but feel this may have the prints of tony all over it, revenge for the downfall of oona?

Can't believe that Blair has that kind of influence over US Senate committees...

This covers a lot of the same ground as the Telegraph allegations, but it relies on different sources. The Telegraph, incidentally, have been given leave to appeal the decision against them.

Also, on the 'is it revenge for Oona' tip, it's worth remembering that Galloway is only one of many people around the world mentioned in the report.

Update: Reading the papers this morning, I got the impression that there were new documents used in this case; however, interviews just now on Radio 4 suggest that there's not a great deal of new information here - a lot of this stuff was already public domain. So, who knows. The UN's own investigation might be the one to wait for.

Beast of Burden
Except that some UN officials have had similar accusations flung at them, including Kofi Annan's son.

Ah, I hadn't realised that Oliver - I'd only heard about Galloway, the French (ex?) Interior Minister and unnamed 'others'.

Bring out the vacuum
Galloway laying the smack down on those US Senators was all over the TV news here in Australia, and friends in NZ tell me it made it there as well.

Knowing nothing about the man, I thought his passionate assault was pretty exciting. It's floating around the web in various forms.

yeah, that was pretty awesome. very unusual for someone to publicly mention the foreign dead people

i'm so torn on this though. on one hand it annoys the fuck out of me that the left in this country is being led by this ridiculous moustachioed stalinist- on the other, he has been on magnificent form, and (sorry oliver) i was very very pleased he won in bethnal green - yes i know he's an opportunist and so forth, with some dubious friends, and maybe its a cosmetic thing and i'm being shallow but still.

Apparently last time the only people who attended less were Sinn Fein, so we're probably never find out.
Maybe he'll boycott Parliament on the grounds of not recognising the sovereignty of the British crown over the Democratic Islamic Socialist People's Republic of Rochdale.

I deleted my inbreeding in Rochdale post, but it sparked a memory of an exodus from Hulme, Manchester where we formed a convoy and headed off to the "Two Trees free festival" in Doncaster ( trouble is no one else got the memo and the "festival" consisted of, well, us, transplants from Manchester, make your own entertainment so to speak ) and on the way, on the opposite side of the road we passed and waved at "MAX" and the "BREW CREW" who were headed to Rochdale for another non-existent free festival, except theirs got busted straightaway due to some reckless driving on their part

I may have corrupted some Doncaster youth by passing them a spliff in the back of a converted ambulance and then I puked up litres of the cheap cider from the local off license
