What is good about Pop Music?

honestly reading back through this thread Mark and tim f come across as a bit dislikeable (two men in their own hermetic universes thinking they will serve as a vanguard to.. what?) Didn't you lot try and get them in order?

there is nothing radical in consumption because consumption cannot undo the relation of force (and force is really the question here, not conformism or a lack of...)

You can make the most non-conformist 12 tone serialism, contribute to some individual enlightenment, but that relation of force will still take your ideas and present them as its own, precisely because capital has no ideas of its own. Even in this sense talking about co-optation is wrong, as soon as a commodity is in circulation, it belongs to capital, including human labour power...

@shiels and @version and @shakahislop cannot fundamentally accept this perspective, because it undercuts the basis for sociology, and the redemptive christian salvation in Mark's thought. But, a fundamental plank of the communist program is that monks and nuns (and priests for that matter) are not legitimate occupations... Unceasing modernism! no spiritual pretensions!

Our task is not to get tangled in a debate about popism vs rockism or even acid communism, for that matter, but to prepare the stage for the powerful barbaric wave to overwhelm all bourgeois forces, and snatch their nubile culture from their still hungry jaws. @craner understands this, even if he tends not to impart this perspective on this forum. Because, of course, what the fascists and bourgeois liberal lefties both fear is barbarism.
