"that track is great, need the album"
Yeah... but I get the feeling that it never came out on vinyl (which is probably the reason I never got it before). Can anyone tell me I'm wrong please?

Can anybody quickly recommend some more albums in the vein of World Galaxy, Sextant, Thembi?

In the old days I used to go and listen to jazz albums at the listening posts in the Virgin Megastore JAZZ ROOM on Oxford Street. Then I would go and buy the albums I liked at Ray’s Jazz Café in Foyles. (All of this has gone now.) This music would then be the soundtrack to the decadent seafood parties I used to host in my house. This was when I was at my most depraved: holding decadent seafood parties, drinking Bulgarian wine, watching Nazisploitation films, reading neoconservative tracts, and listening to jazz. They were dark times.

I think he is from Northern England and thats all I got on him. His mixes of rarities were just crazy stuff filled with endless unidentifiable records.

Lots of stuff has combined some of the elements that comprise of Impulse-era Pharoah (world music, lush chords, soulfulness, catchiness, optimism, etc.) but I haven't found anything that quite does it for me in the same way.

In addition to what others have recommended I would suggest some of the mellower, world music influenced, fusion-era Miles Davis:

Recollections

Lonely Fire

Guinnevere

Yaphet

Albert Ayler's 'The Truth Is Marching In' strikes a similar emotional chord as Pharoah:

Darned cockwombles.
great thread. i always loved alice coltrane but never ended up following much of pharaoh sanders' music as a result. i wonder why now. amazing, and so immediately accessible (which feels like a good thing to me, as difficult as I find most free jazz).

kind of close to the best music ever.
