im reading his dark enlightenment essay. guy sounds like wasteman tbh. he should just say i want total subjugation of the state to capital. what a fucking waste of words.

its more bad 90s scifi, imo, but I mean wrt capital specifically. land has a perverse/obscene take on marx as kind of accelerationist ultra-capitalist, where capitalism and communism become indistinguishable in the limit. capital replaces the proletariat as the true revolutionary subject and subjugates all of life to its logic, eradicating humanity and its institutions.

the early stuff is quite good cyberpunk i think. i can understand reading the dark enlightenment stuff as bad 50s sci-fi. a lot of those goons were pretty out there libertarians and so on.

i think hes pretty good at pastiching literary style. the book on battaille
swoons and flutters and gasps and gnashes its teeth and flounces and mimes all these other histrionic poses just like a real literary
frenchman would

maybe Ive got a skewed perspective bc I read him quite slowly, but I remember the aesthetic being pretty consistent. what changed is his philosophy went even further out there and his politics followed suit.

you probably take more note of the ideas and i probably take more note of the literary style

there's something about that by someone or other
they say write in rimbauds, or nietzsches, or whoevers style, but
swap out the ideas for other ideas and youve still got rimbaud or nietzsche
but the opposite is never true.

What a thread. Infuriating and illuminating in equal measure. Some people will still be shouting 'freeze peach' in the cattle cars.

Not that I remember, although he had some followers here. But that was before he veered into far-right weirdness, I think.

Not as far as I know.

It's a hazard of fetishising philosophy above everything else (+ serotonin depletion as pointed out by thirdform).

Praxis is supposed to be theory + practise, in an ever evolving dialectical relationship. If your practise IS theory it all becomes like when cows were being fed bits of cows. BSE of the soul.

the problem with Land isn't whether he is a fascist or not, he pretty much is but that's irrelevant, the problem is that he's a conservative artist. a bad artist. like emerson lake and palmer or weather report. at least weather report have that good nugget non stop home.
