Rakim might well be miming here but it's still a pleasure to see the crowd going nuts to that break, innit? Also Rakim further cements his status in my eyes as the best-dressed rapper of all time (not content with being the possible G.O.A.T. rapper full-stop).

BONUS: Slightly awkward interview with Ra and Eric and then a performance by London, England's ABC.

The crowd reaction on this one is even better. Unfortunately they're doing that thing where the rapper raps over his own rapping (WHY?!). Still, check 2:36 for the wild reaction it will put a smile on your face unless you're Ebenezeer Scrooge.

Love the Jaguar video, and such a contrast to the Bowie video. Bowie, inert, practically one shot. Jaguar, bouncing around in a gold jacket, singing to the camera, everyone bouncing. It's funny how they've got table service at the front too. :D

I honestly prefer the sparsity and the disorienting quality of this acoustic version to the album's kind of 'goofy' quality in the synths. Also, the 2003 BBC documentary version that does it all as proper jazz is a bit... IDK, too much sometimes. Though its great to hear him realize his obvious love of jazz through that band.

Nine Inch Nails has always been a bit too corny for me past the teen years, but here's Trent and some of his team (Atticus Ross and Twiggy Ramirez/Jeordie White) backing Peter Murphy for some weird little thing, and doing Iggy Pop covers. Great to see this load of goofy 'dark types' purposefully being prized hams and goofing a bit.

Yuzo Koshiro, Japanese Video Game Composer responsible for stuff like Shinobi and Streets of Rage. I've always loved his sort of novelty hardcore techno sound as a kid and I think Joker linked to this like 5 or 6 years ago on twitter and I lost my mind. His stuff totally makes sense in a soundsystem too, not just for like gaming BGM.

Pop-group BiS from Japan who kind of loved lampooning the shit out of Idol culture in a really cruel way. Half-synch half-real vox but its more important for the simple mental image of the fan dudes running up those stairs just to touch 'em.

More J-pop, this time Perfume. IDK, nothing might be better than three girls who deliberately play up a hyperactive electro-pop sound that resembles nothing short of Pharmacy Music (if that's even a real thing), caked in autotune... Performing in a small corner of a Apple Store.

This is a fave, specifically for right before 5 minutes in because P Money and Dot try to do "Sounds & Gimmicks" live, and listening to the two of them doubling each other up life is fucking ridiculous and great.

Saafir freestyling for 8+ minutes over loops free-associating in the middle of a bassment because I think its worth it just to watch how he swivels and tries to find pockets in mid-air.

Tune at 3:30 of that Streets of Rage guy's set! (As visual experiences it's not the most exciting, admittedly.)

Enjoyed the ''Nightclubbing'' cover, too, and enjoyed - and was confused by - Robert Wyatt.

Most people will have seen this, I expect, but still worth watching. Biggie Smalls when he was Smaller Smalls. Why can't rappers like this set up with little speaker stands in British town centres instead of some white bloke in a Jurassic 5 t-shirt with a mate beatboxing "Nas is Like"?

Ive had this one in my favourites for years and still pull it out. Bammyman was a hype/sound fx guy in the vein of fuzzy jones, Joe Lickshot, or Jackie Knockshot. Doing his thing here in combination with Cutty Ranks here for Metromedia. The rattling chains, the gibberish, and best of all Skyjuice tweaking his ear to push his fader up and down.


Probably my fave lord of the mics vid. Kano at his peak, Wiley's lack of lyrics exposed but puts up a decent fight still.
