not exactly an audiophile thing but this is the best place i could think of for it. went to see francisco lopez last night who i'd never heard of before. in a little old churchy building in brooklyn. he had 16 speakers or something like that in a circle and then all the chairs for the audience were in concentric circles facing out from a central point towards the speakers. they gave you a blindfold as you walked in and then turned the lights off before he started. he played an hour of industrial rattling and clanking sounds, and bass and whirring noises. it was brilliant. sitting there with this warm spacialised bass washing at you from every corner of the room. having that level of control of the audience and their positioning in relation to the speakers seemed to make some new things possible in terms of doing things with the spatial position of the sound. sometimes it felt like the noise was physically coming towards you.

was at nowadays again recently and the soundsystem there really makes a difference i think. this is not news to dissensus (or probably anyone in the world) but with bass in particular certain musical things become possible on a nice system that just wouldn't work without it. i've forgotten the dj's name but at some point she played this juddering monster track out of nowhere that had that sculptural bass thing going on, i've never heard anything quite like it, but then it would have been impossible to get anything out of a track like that without the right soundsystem, on a youtube stream at home it wouldn't register i think. but then you all know of this phenomenon already
