House tunes that UK funky showed us were not boring

Darned cockwombles.
great thread idea. remember Marcus Nasty playing one or two US house-only sets (or so it seemed to me) that were among my favourites ever

everything by masters at work might be a short answer for me, but

is a favourite

Big thread.

I played on Live FM for a few months in about 2011, towards the end of when it was good. But yeah 2008ish is when it was fire.

Got any recordings of sets from around those times by any chance? I've been uploading as many classic sets as I can onto this mixcloud, upped over 50 so far.

thing is i like some of these tunes but it's really when house went beige isn't it?

so not sure how to feel about it.

just not comparable to this earth shattering brilliance is it?

pass the sick bucket
on the techno-y end of house. actually i think this is the unified tresillo that barty is talking about but it's much more integrated than that aaron carl dub which i just found clunky sadam check it out:

bandz ahoy
All these tunes are great third, although I can't really imagine them fitting into a funky set. Dunno if it's a question of vibe or rhythm?

The cheesiness of some of the tunes that DID pop up in funky sets is part of what I love about them. Cheesiness was baked into uk funky from the start, along with the grimeyness - in fact those two things were two sides of the same coin, somehow.

That's why I felt some type of way about that FACT article about Beneath which was essentially saying UK funky was alright but what it REALLY needed was dark atmospherics and souped up production values.
