BUCKLES ALWAYS MAKES ME LAUGH

the recent interview with bob mortimer - very moving. bob really nails adam - it's all about LOVE

good one with jon ronson - a bit of fumbling around discussing porn - but still real and revealing

I'm a fan. I really like the old Adam and Joe 6 music shows too. The Bob Mortimer episode is excellent. Cariad Lloyd one was interesting - about parents dying. Adam Curtis one. Garth Jennings and Julian Barrett. Louis Theroux...

My only beef with Buxton concerns his jingles, which tend to be longer than they are funny. And the catchphrases. And the talking dog. Other than those few niggles, I love the guy.

aaah. i have to admit i love the jingles. i like the way he flexes his goofy nearly-but-not-quite musical aesthetic (yikes i can imagine him reading that aloud!) and i love rosie the talking dog too! hopelessly impartial.

when it falls down for me is those occasions where the chemistry with the guests isn't quite right. basically when the guests are idiots - or i suppose when they clearly rub adam up the wrong way (make him defensive or even competitive - we're all human!)

but sometimes when the guests are twats (charlie brooker definitely a twat for instance) sometimes adam saves the day by being sweet. when he spoke to wes anderson i could sense that that wound him up - anderson's superiority was a bit grating and adam ended up sounding a bit competitive about bowie-lore. but of course these subtle dynamics are what makes it such a fascinating show.

The Charlie Brooker episode was a disappointment, but I did laugh at his description of needing a shit as 'being impaled on a bannister' and having a 'clay spine'.

Big fan here.

Can't believe you don't like Rosie the dog. The jingles issue I get.

It's nice that he seems to have got over the 'my friends are more successful' / 'why am i not allowed to make TV programmes any more?' issues (maybe too strong a word) and is enjoying himself

I don't hate it I just don't find it particularly funny - I just want to skip that bit to get to the conversation.

re: his insecurities about his career - I'm glad he's got over this but otoh this is part of his comic appeal so it's always funny when it does flare up.

I was struck listening to it yesterday that Adam's the kind of guy who might actually stumble across this thread and be stung by my (mild) criticisms. Well, if he is reading this I am deeply sorry, I LOVE YOU, BYEEEE
