    just as self-destructive to retreat and surrender. well, that didnt work, i wont try again.

    or just to stubbornly ignore it, refuse to listen and acknowledge it.

    even just noticing which specific members of your friendship group you are spending your time with and which are currently off the radar tells you something. not necessarily about what you are doing 'wrong' but where you are at the present time. what your preoccupations and priorities are. where your attention is focussed.
