I don't know if this was actually a "thing" in the UK at all, on the continent it was - "French House".

There weren't many French pop-music acts getting international recognition before the electornic (dance) music revolution of the 1990s. Jean Michelle Jarre, some dicso outfits. I think that was all. From the early/mid 1990s on the French gained recognition in house and techno circles. Starting with Laurent Garnier entering the dj/rave circuit. Most well known was and still is of course Daft Punk. But there was also Etienne De Crecy, Cassius, or Mr. Oizo.

bandz ahoy
I dunno if I love filter house but I love all the most famous tunes from that scene, e.g. 'Intro', 'Music Sounds Better with You'...

I'd file Groovenet and Sophie Ellis Catface under this too, even though Groovenet were Italian

Darned cockwombles.
Somehow this music reminds me of peak ILM, in the dark days before Dissensus. Still adore it though. I always thought of St Germain as too downtempo/noodly to be house - I have the CD but used it as a coaster.
