From my brief time here I've seen other top 100 tracks. It's good once you reach a certain age to try to finalise somethings as a list.

If I do it ten at a time... what do you think to these? Feel free to do your own.

Your selections seem good but for my part I don't find a list by itself that interesting - I want interesting writing to accompany it. Nevertheless, I'll listen to your selections!

I hoped you'd tell me how obvious and generic my list was. Thanks for listening anyway, boss.

I'd compiled it as a playlist (don't play records anymore) recently otherwise might not have been so keen to do it. Really I hope it's not too bad, just a selection of tracks, first that come to mind when doing a top 100. I find lists are a good exercise in themself even if I can pick apart my own because it goes downhill from here.

79. David Bowie & Pat Metheny Group - This Is Not America
78. Phil Collins - I don't Care Anymore
77. CLuster - Hollywood
76. Serious Intention - Serious (Dub)
75. Kwame - Ownlee Eue
74. Lil Louis - Club Lonely
73. Source Direct - Stonehiller
72. Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby
71. Kraftwerk - Computer World
70. The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go

69. Joe Henderson - Black Narcissus
68. Gil Scott Heron - The Bottle
67. Lonne Liston Smith - Space Lady
68. Candi Staton - I Know
66. Alan Parker - Blue Shadow
65. Brian Bennett - Solstice
64. Roy Ayers - Liquid Love
63. Candi Staton - I Know
62. Nuyorican Soul - I Am the Black Gold of the Sun
61. Rare Silk - Storm
60. MF Doom - Doomsday

So maybe it could be a good thread, don't mind criticism if people don't wanna do lists as just a bit of fun/to start some talking.

Did you do one song per artist rule?

I rate you having unfinished sympathy that high cos I get the feeling it would be a taboo choice for many dissensians

Yeah as a generall rule although there are two from Herbie Hancock. I like that kind of criticism, because 'trip hop' does get kind of bashed a lot in critical circles. I mean I even have Portishead numb quite high up, when I reached towards the end I was reaching a bit, and looking back towards the top of the list to see if I was maintaining some kind of quality control.

Always surprises me when people say they don't like Massive Attack but can see how it's err... debatable.

The choice I really admire and stuck out to me is:

78. Phil Collins - I don't Care Anymore

Wow, I would love to hear your case for this!

There used to be a famous regular here called Dave Stelfox who loved Phil. I used to be fascinated by Stelfox's love for Phil. All the rappers love Sade and Phil.

Well, I love Phil Collins would be the simple answer. So felt I had to choose just one. Why do I love him. Not just the voice and songwriting but the drumming and production. I mean what is it, just a Prophet 5 pad and the drum mix is still a template for me, as cheesy as it can sound, digital reverb units of the 80s are still bad.

Why that track? Honestly, it could have been something from the Genesis era. or one of his bigger commercial hits, maybe You Can't Hurry Love as I would have liked more Motown songs on there. But that one, lyrically sound, and a bit of a gem I think, and on the Miami Vice soundtrack. I've been asked before if Phil Collins, why not Genesis, I guess I just listen to solo Phil more.

You must be a euro. I can't imagine an englishman making a list like that. It's impossible for the English to be as insulated from changing fashions as you are. We're too saturated by media.

Are you not on strike anymore?

There's also no English music from the 90s00s on it. Trip hop doesn't count.

No, I'm from Birmingham.

I never would have considered a list at a time when I still bought records. It's all the bloody YouTube playlists. I thought after I did it, I've just commodified my taste in music! So I'll have to leave it with a disclaimer that it could be changed at any point, even though most of it is set in stone from stuff that I discovered over 10 years ago, or samples that have stuck with me.

For example Kwame - Ownlee Eue - not a particularly great trackk but...

"Cause your smile brightens my day
And turns my grey skies blue
The reason that I'm happy
I'm happy 'cause of you"

I'm out of work at the moment to so it's given me a bit of time to mooch around forums a bit.

It's a kind of Swiss middlebrow list. Schnapps. Maybe a little toothpick spliff, spluttering dad tokes on a dad spliff. No oasis. No jungle. No grime. A 50 year old man from Switzerland. Owns a car. Possibly even a house. Not that it's bad. Lots of good gear on there. Just definitely a euro of about 50, probably Swiss.

Thry didn't listen to oasis in Switzerland. They were skiing. Eating rich creamy potato dishes.

Not wearing socks displaying their ankles. Nice solid tanned ankles with healthy thick black hairs. Adult hairs. Affluent swiss ankles. Solid buttocks.
