mnml/tech house with the sickest, most insane sonics

no not the quirky UK relief indebted stuff that cristian vogel did. that's wonky. i mean the berlin indebted 70000 hour cocaine party without viagra in sight.

actually genuinely like this beyond haha novelty. can't really say that for anything else from this crop really.

this is absolutely fucking tedious shit but at one point it was one of the 5 records that would pop up on discogs recommendations almost incessantly. it would be fine with that bass motif if that rising oscillated vuvuzella ttype sound wasn't the fucking focal point of the track. but yeah, fucking shit.

some irish bloke showed this one to me. think he did too many drugs. i guess when you're unfortunately saddled with warmed over lager being part of yer heritage such follies are inevitable.

blissbloggers glam schaffle techno

this one's alright though. bit of a dubhead's approach. think after 2004 this sound became totally fucking irredeemable though. not sure. like i said never liked it just that michael mayer mix from 2002 with this on it and that villalobos track.

now im just cheating with the discogs algorithm never ever heard this one strange

maybe i need to sleep can't decide if it's ketamine crap or not. or is it essex man techno?

Chtonic Fatigue Syndrome
In defense of ketamine:

Serious melting synth action, shits all over anything Matthew Dear ever did:

Turn-of-the-millenium UK tech house is almost uniformally abominable, but this is genuinely sleazy and has enough Chicago in it:

I find most of the Skudge stuff overrated and pretty dull, but this is amazing psychedelic sleaze:

lol yeah uk tech hhouse, absolute cowshit - actually that's insulting to cowshit. some people are rediscovering that in techno in UK and it's just like why guys?

skudge was alright in 2011-early 12 but didn't really evolve much since then. i had a set of there's live from fabric i think but lost it, i guess.

This music passes the 'makes me want to take drugs' test - it's the sort of thing I've found myself dancing to at 7 in the morning at some after party or in a marquee or something.

Dunno if this fits here but I like this one alot

yeah it's essentially drug music. but drug music can sometimes produce some sonic wonders. that one's a bit edging close to later mainstream EDM isn't it. would be interesting to see how minimal was an influence on EDM, like the one that people don't wanna admit, nu skool breaks as an influence on grime.

It's very of its time this stuff isn't it? more so than garage or jungle. it reminds me of the early 00s when mass laptop technology became much much more readily available.

I was at EXIT festival in Serbia in 2007 and this tune was pretty huge at the time, must have heard three or four different DJs play it in that moat stage bit. Personally I think the rising vuvuzella is the only good thing about it!

That was quite an eye-opening experience. Seeing thousands - tens of thousands? - of people reacting ecstatically to this fairly (to my ears) boring techno and house music. Sort of gave me a glimpse of techno's massiveness in europe (particularly eastern europe).

tec house and what they call funky techno now, basically what i call 'one bar samba loop techno' from the 00s is pretty huge anywhere outside the nuum. big in Spain, Brazil and Italy as well.

I'm quite fond of the 00s Spanish industrial techno though. Oscar Mulero, Reeko etc. very spacious dynamics.

This just popped into my head, haven't thought about it in years...

awful though isn't it. practically every track in mnml sounds like that, I'm all about the cracks but the genre itself is irredeemable. some indie bird wanted to see radio slave with me in 2011 and i was like folds hands I have essays to do. of course i didn't i got smashed at the cheesy chartpop bar, which bizarrely was more fun. what were the pop hits of 2011 again? should really go through a spotify or uk top 40 playlist as my memory is deluding me with my infatuation with captains morgans and drinking 15 on a night out.

I vaguely remember there being some sort of controversy over Dubfire making minimal techno - can't remember why though, maybe he previously made prog house or something? (I have very little idea of what the difference is between all these genres.)

Guess he ripped off the ascending jet-plane sort of sound from the Audion track. It's all very functional. I can respect that. It's pretty empty though.

yeah he was in deep dish.

prog house is just grown up eurotrance without the cheese or the cheese toned down to such a degree that it becomes housey.

pretty middle of the road club music. though i know you have more of a pull to centrism than I do...
