we murder to dissect
This

Is it good? Wrong question. Is it cringey? Absolutely. But it was one of the most commonly requested songs when my mum was doing funerals in a working class area of Worcester.

Wouldn't have it at my funeral. I'd have something classy. Bit of Schoenberg or Arvo Part. But there's that line of Dennis Potter's about how popular songs have something about them of the psalms of David.

Still find it a bit difficult to get past the fact that the source material is a song by Sting, written from the point of view of a stalker, though.

No, the most beautiful song is one tribe featuring gem- what have you done.

It allows us to visit a achingly beautiful world that we can't inhabit, and on the one hand we're overcome with the beauty and on the other the sadness of not being able to stay. A bit like the comedown off nice drugs can feel.

I wonder how central this notion of exile is to beauty.

Is that a compliment?

I went to a poetry evening recently and they did Keats Shelley and Byron. Byron came out the best BY FAR, but they stiffed Keats by having a selection from fucking Endymion.
