Slightly better than average. Cost £90+...

hate when that happens, lots of slightly better than average places in ny where dinner/drinks/tip for two runs $100-150. I remember when that was a rare occurrence, and usually resulted in a memorable dining experience.

I was wondering if someone would make that connection. But it's just the only thing to do within that environment isn't it. You can't have a conversation. The only way you can interact with it is to fill animals with lead and skin them.

Bits of pitta, roast veg, quick tomato and chilli sauce, yoghurt, sumac and aleppo pepper butter. There would be some flat leaf parsley sprinkled over it, but Aldi were out. Kind of inspired by yoğurtlu adana. Nice Friday night dinner - it feels quite fancy because it's got lots of components but they're all very easy and mostly foolproof so it's no stress to throw together after work.

Needs shallow depth of field, saturated colours and a handmade jug in the background tbh. Dinner was alright, though.

Had a nice meal out I couldn't really afford at Oldroyd in Angel last night. Highlights were taglitelle with what were apparently trompettes de la mort - death's trumpet? It was really autumnal, dark and savoury. Leek ash as well?Wtf that is I've no idea. An aubergine dish with almonds, shallots and cheese was pretty lit as well. Roasted monkfish in a butter sauce was just a big slab of chunky luxury.

If I had the income/employment, I would be Luka's expense account Tory, give myself gout before the age of 50.

Dan: trompettes de la mort are called horn of plenty in English or Craterellus cornucopioides in Science.

Finally went to Nazare, no really big waves but found a super nice restaurant. I had prawns in brandy and cream followed by pig cheeks with chorico mash. Was tempted by the pork belly and octopus surf and turf but settled for eating a bit of girlfriend's breaded octopus. Expensive but good.

Sounds good. Eaten so much rich food these last few days... too knackered to cook though today, might have to get another take away.

Weekend catchup:
Saturday: had pizza out as we were on our way to a gig. Decent.
Sunday: Persian green bean and tomato braise from the Silk Road book I mentioned in the cookbook thread. Halloumi and pitta on the side.

Catch-up for me too:

Friday night we ate (mainly) courtesy of my mum and dad again. This was pork and bacon meatloaf, sliced thickly then fried, with lashings of gravy. (That was the mum and dad bit.) I did roast spuds - trademark mix of Maris Piper and sweet potatoes - with sea salt, dried herbs and fresh rosemary from the garden. Couple of other veg items on the side, heavily buttered. Hard to think of a less 'cool' dinner but by god, it was good. Couple of decent bottles of red helped too, of course.

Saturday we just had leftovers, and some more Three Kingdoms Pie yesterday.

This evening I made a pizza. Blend of three Italian and English cheeses, wild mushrooms (winter chanterelles, since you asked - same genus as Dan's death-trumpets), chorizo, black olives, capers and fresh cherry tomatoes. Pretty fucking good, though I say it myself.

if this was a competition (and who says it isn't), tea would be winning. helped by his food porn photography.
