    Default Sonic Weaponry

Saw Jon Ronson's "Crazy Rulers of the Earth" on telly the other night. I'm quite a fan of his knowing pile-up of conspiracy theory and humour.

The episode was about "Funny Torture" and's central focus was on the fact the fact that US Psyops have been playing Iraqi detainee's the song from Barney and The Sesame Street theme. Actually it seems the reason children's music is used is owing to chinese whispers within the military establishment. The First Earth Batallion, a kind of post-Vietnam Hippy R'n'D outfit posited the use of such music so as to mollify/pacify/emotionally disarm the enemy (other tactics of theirs include soldiers entering enemy territory holding new-born lambs, you get the picture...)

On the face of it there seemed to be no precise reason why such music was used, especially as the colonel who designed the original intentions for such music's use certainly didnt specify it's use at massive decibels and over protracted periods of time. Horrific photos showed Iraqi prisoners emerging, appallingly disturbed from containers wherein they'd been locked for days upon end being blasted by, as well as the forementioned, country rock by Matchbox 20 (?)

It seemed literally ANY music would have done the trick.

Ronson also explored the connections between the First Earth Batallion and composer Steven Halpern (kind of a low budget Terry Riley)

Halpern reminds me of one of my cartoon characters "Alphonse Rhizome" i'll post the comic at www.woebot.com tonight...

ronson made quite a huge play of people laughing about the barney thing (spoke to it's composer who, between chuckles, wanted to know if he could get royalties off the army!) he then had it intercut with the torture victems suffering. it was pretty crude, but there's no escaping the deathly humour of the situation. i think even ronson recognised that...

    yeah i saw the 1st 1 & bits of pt2,

    i don't really get jonronson ,
he has this flippant attitude that undermines whatever he says,
it's like his journalism is to sloppy (or maybe the conspiracy is too impenetrable) for him to make any real points, so he kinda dicks about, stirs up a lot of wierdness then flakes out...

his article in the observer was a little bit more pinned down
but he still seems to undermine himself by using glib titles...

what's up with him eh? wierdo.............

watched pt2 partly with sufi, but reckon that ronson is just attempting to make himself as innoccuous as possible to let the subject/interviewee speak for it/themself/ves...doesn't want to do a john simpson liberating kabul-style thing nor a broomfield new journalist-type action but let the subject dig their own hole...saw the one he did on abu hamza where he limited himself to anodyne commentary & let hamza create the perspective of the programme...hamza caricatured himself exceptionally well - bit of a comic genius really...on the other hand i prefer a bit of pilgerist provocatism

well the US used zz top to oust noreiga from his bunker

also this is an new move in the us sonic weapondry idea, they've already given the troops the pulsing weapon that they had on the programme, but this is totally insane

    It was crickets. Fucking crickets.

In January 2019, a study by Alexander Stubbs, from the University of California, concluded that the sounds in a recording of one of the purported sonic attacks were produced by the Indies short-tailed cricket (Anurogryllus celerinictus, in the family Anurogryllus). He based the conclusion on recordings of the sound, comparing them to recordings of the cricket, writing, "the calling song of the Indies short-tailed cricket (Anurogryllus celerinictus) matches, in nuanced detail, the AP recording in duration, pulse repetition rate, power spectrum, pulse rate stability, and oscillations per pulse. . . . This provides strong evidence that an echoing cricket call, rather than a sonic attack is responsible...". [51] His conclusion was comparable to a 2017 hypothesis from Cuban scientists that the Jamaican field cricket was responsible.[52][53][54]

There's no reason to accept that explanation. If you dont like it, reject it. This is international intrigue and espionage we are talking about here. What might crickets be code for? Use your imagination. Paranoia is your ally.
