That's just because you're in the UK, right? Vital and Pinnacle are both distributors based in the UK. One.

The point was that iTunes are not allowing people to directly supply them with MP3s. We still have to deal with exactly the same distributors in the UK who aren't getting our music available in a digital format anyway.

What EXACTLY the fuck is the problem with distribution grimewise...or is it a problem for all UK based genres of music? I've heard some label woes across the water that put ours to shame. One.

No pre-orders
no consistent nationwide distribution
no digital formats

The WHOLE problem with Grime is that the gulf between the way of operating in mainstream and "street" music industries is too vast for them to work hand in hand, and there are NO big independants like Koch to give people a platform to just release their music, not release a marketing project like on a Major.

I would say the only 2 labels even remotely similar are 679 and XL. And they are not specialist labels, they put out all kinds of stuff.

This genre needs a Def Jam or Tommy Boy circa 1985. And I don't think any of the labels in existence are that yet.

The artists don't help themselves being unreliable and disorganised. But then they should have managers to look after manufacturing and marketing of their music.

It is a long long long list of problems that will never be solved over night.

Those are some far reaching and serious problems in regards to labels/management/distribution. If it wasn't for the blogs, MySpace, YouTube, Limewire and the Yousendit/Sendspace/Megaupload sites I wouldn't even get to hear the music myself...For that matter, why is it easier to get Hong Kong/Japanese/Thai DVD's imported than it is to get ones from the UK?...I can't get a copy of Bullet Boy, Revolver, etc. for the life of me, but I could find a new release from France with no problem...what the hell? One.

No established lines of business.

So if you are a new artist with any product you have to work doubly hard to get your shut out there.

You know there is NO ONE here who has approached any of these artists about distributing their mix CDs on a worldwide level, or even Europe wide.

Vinyl I have just managed to sort out, hopefully that should be finalised in the near future.

When it comes to CDs there's nothing. It's most frustrating for the few of us who are motivated and organised.

kudosrecords are digital distributors for all of the following:

Itunes
Napster
Emusic
Tune Tribe
Music Net (Yahoo, Virgin, HMV)
OD2 (My Coke, MSN, MTV, Tiscali)
DJ Download
Clickgroove
Bleep
Emusic

You can't just upload to this lot like the little independents they have to be distributed to by somewhere like Kudos. Had this in the pipeline for a while. Nothing come of it as yet but so close. Of course if you're worried about getting your tunes ripped and shared, then stick to the established avenues of big label monopolies and payola or limited run vinyl.

Distribution Terms and Conditions

Distribution terms are only discussed on acceptance of your releases. If you would like us to consider your label please send your proposed releases and game plan to;

uk hip hop rapper dubbledge does a grime parody and in the process makes the best track of his career. the beat is more like bad drum n bass than grime, but weirdly, i really like this. he needs to link up with ruff sqwad. tactics, this ones for you.

I've heard a lot of UK hip hop heads really don't like grime. Think the MC's suck, etc...
A few I've spoken to either dismiss it as a fad or damn it with faint praise like "Yeah...some of the beats are alright....it's, er, different"

What EXACTLY do you mean by "diggin tha cratez 4 eva"? I love Grime as well (when did this "Grime drought" happen?), but what are you talking about...please explain/expound on this...I mean, if you CAN. One.

what I meant by grime drought is the small number of mixtape releases over the lest couple of months - there are far fewer than in the spring and I donno what has happened to Gunz and Roses Vol 2

british hip hop seems to be stuck in a mid 90's premier production style fixation quite often with a complete distain towards synthetic sounds.
there are exceptions like roots manuva of course but the cuture seems wholy based on sampling when everyone else has moved on to a greater extent.

this idea that only undergound bores dig in the crates is kinda wrong actually. timbaland still samples (its just not the same old soul jazz funk that say, people under the stairs still use) and lots of producers still do. even on the TI album, theres loads of samples. even ludacris does. its just that yeah, its made to sound cleaner, and often has electronic layers added on top. a lot of guys just do replays of stuff they would sample (ive heard quite a few of the breaks pharrell replays himself, ditto for outkast) instead of paying out the nose for clearance. the sonics are more R&B-like than hip hop too.

on one hand, a lot of undie rap really bores the shit out of me, on the other hand, i dont know if its a bit unfair to expect everyone to do the electronic thing. hip hop is big enough for both sides, no? i mean, if its okay for rock bands to still sound more or less like its 1969 like the white stripes, why isnt it okay for rappers?

anyway, i dont wanna derail this thread, as its meant to be about grime.

The main body of UK Hip Hoppers are pretty long in the tooth now.I would love to hear some youngsters who are less set in their ways using Grime as a influence in their music.

It might not happen overnight, but a fusion of both styles could be an exciting direction for uk music to go in.
