funny, under a silver lake really reminded me of south land tales, same sort of kitsch surrealism and they both feature that i've got soul but i'm not a soldier song which is shit.
When was that? I never noticed it in Under the Silver Lake.

The book grew on me. I think it's really good. The stuff about ARPANET, the fake bills with Nixon's face on pulled out of the sea, the "zomes" in the desert which people never emerge from. It's great. There's loads of stuff in there that isn't in the film.

@linebaugh likes it a lot too.
I've got a gap in my reading coming up. I was gonna get mumbo jumbo as my main novel. But perhaps I'll go for another pynchon. But if I did, it would be against the day.

Nearly finished woebots book now. And halfway thru the black jacobins.

You'll never finish against the day it's over a thousand pages. Too long for you. Mumbo Jumbo is around 180 pages.

It was much easier to work out what was and what wasn't important, also became obvious he was going through a bad break up and it was colouring everything he did. The aimlessness, the poor hygiene, the sleeping around and creeping, the violent rages, the obsession with his neighbour, the neglecting of his rent and car payments. It all makes sense once you realise he's in a state after breaking up with the woman he keeps seeing on those billboards who he later bumps into at that party he follows the coyote to.

Something else which jumped out at me was the way he talks about the homeless when he goes on that big rant is more or less how the "king" he meets in the hut talks about this world and people like him being locked out of the one they're ascending to. I also think the homeless guy he ends up yelling at before the woman gets shot in the reservoir may be in on the conspiracy as the "Homeless King" is part of it and there's all the hobo code stuff, so there's obviously a network of them who know some of what's going on and are leaving the symbols, guarding the tunnels and perhaps murdering people on behalf of the wealthy.

The Owl's Kiss I reckon's one, or more than one, of the girls working for the escort service. Maybe the one with short hair. That pirate guy who's involved with his neighbour and the ascension tombs is also seen with them, so they're all connected to the same people.
@IdleRich Address my theories!

That homeless guy who shouts is definitely in on it - might be him that shoots at them.

Do you think the Homeless King's literally king of the homeless, or do you think he's a king in exile, as in one of the wealthy people who somehow lost his wealth and is now stuck guarding the tombs for the others?
