cycling fashion is a very very murky area. tread carefully.
both modern and retro can have massive potential pitfalls.

Three options I reckon:

1. Avoid team gear completely. Wear plain gear in suitable colours from Rapha, Castelli, Giordana, etc. etc.

2. Go all out. Pick a team with a strikingly naff strip and own it completely. Like full Mapei...

3. Wear whatever the hell you want and tear the legs off anyone who dares to question you!

It's all about panache in the end. You can wear anything but you have to be prepared to be fabulous.

Is anyone else following the Tour de France this year?
I was a big fan of it growing up but kind of lost interest with it over the last few years (all of the doping stuff made me a bit cynical I guess, like a lot of people). Trying to get back into it a bit more this time, having a listen to the first stage on 5Live Extra via the BBC site just now.
(Should this have its own thread?).

Edit: durr, you can get it on ITV4 too. Most of you interested prob already knew this.

Very excited for the Tour, particularly as it seems like Andy Schleck's year. Simply by riding the Giro (let alone winning it) Contador seemed to be conceding defeat in advance. First stage was bonkers and lots of fun, although that crash was really nasty (and stupid!) looking and I was sad that Fabian Cancellara's break didn't come off.

i have a feeling that this will be a big edition - no Lance sideshow to distract and lots of individuals who are willing to hurt Conty.
He'll be close to two mins down at the end of day two.
Expect Vino to go bonkers for the yellow in his final lap of France.
i think Big G will be in yellow tonight and Cav will be in green by Friday.
Gilbert is a monster and that turn to chase down Fabian was immense.

I think the Leopard Trek team could beat up Conty in the mountains but i still think it will be Alberto in yellow in three weeks time.

Do not read this.
Asked on twitter & various other people but didn't get a response, need to replace the back wheel on my racing bike, but would like some reccomendations on where to go and get this. Don't know of any decent cycle shops really, and I don't want to get ripped off/laughed at.

(don't know if posting what I need would be of any relevance, single speed, 16 tooth cog, NOT fixed wheel)

edit* should of been more clear on the location, east LDN, Essex if possible.. HMGovt where is your shop located?

thanks in advance

Surprised there's been so little here on the spectacular crashes and aftermath. Hoogerland and Flecha nearly killed by the mad french tV car
, Brad's broken collar bone, Vino's broken leg, Horner's broken nose, Van Den Broek's broken everything, Gesink somehow still in the tour despite riding like a wet dog on lino - and that's week one!

Race is really going to hot up now as Andy and Frank have to come out of the pack sometime soon. Can Cadel maintain his sparkling form and is Gilbert about the classiest rider in the peleton?

That Hoogerland thing was fucking insane. Seeing that picture of him climbing back over the fence and knowing that he needed 36 stitches in his legs, but he still got back on and finished the stage and stayed in the race first.

The Gilbert vs Cav battle is quite interesting. On the one hand, the route looks like a bit of a fix to nobble the sprinters in the Green Jersey competition, on the other hand it's undeniably interesting to see the odds levelled a bit between the pure sprinters and the classics specialist.

It's a shame to see so many crashes, and particularly to see some GC contenders go out before they'd really started. I don't know why it's so bad this year, though... is it the route or the conditions or the riders or what?

Yeah, lack of discussion on here is a little poor :(

It's been a bit of a classic so far (not for the best of reasons)...

I was speaking to a work colleague who is big into cycling and he thought that the changes to the Green Jersey had benefitted true sprinters like Cavandish.

Gilbert has been heroic, especially yesterday when he kept on attacking when he didn't need to.

Still backing Andy to win.

I really do find that the crashes and bunch splits have made things much more exciting so far this year, although obv I know that's a bit of a dodgy attitude given that it's meant people have been injured and had to give up etc. It just makes it more unpredictable.
Gilbert is a class act, I've really warmed to him. Also the fact that Cavendish has done as well as he has is impressive considering the amount of uphill finishes plus splits in the pack late on. Still don't think I could call the overall at all, Evans looks strong but he's not been tested for really long periods of time yet like will happen in the mountains. Contador does looks pretty shaky to me but again it's hard to tell yet.

Evans will never will because he'll never bloody attack. But he will (adopts high-pitched Aussie whine) cut your head off!

Thursday is going to be bonkers. Contador is going to have to try something over the next few days. Maybe Saturday? I don't think he stands a chance though, TBH. Has to be Andy's year, right?

So did they get Hoogerland a new pair of shorts after that crash or what? The whole thing was fairly astonishing. His tears on the podium seemed to be more from physical pain than emotional relief. He looked like he was about to pass out!

I think it was partly to do with his mate Wouter Weylandt having been killed in a crash in the Giro as well.

And now he's on the attack again! What a hero...

Bloody hell, hats off to Voekler keeping the yellow.
Solid stage win for Samuel Sanchez but I suspect he might have already lost too much time to be an overall contender.
Frank Schleck looking good, Andy maybe not so much. Contador still losing seconds. Evans mostly doing his boring cunt thing, lols.

Beast of Burden
I really really want Geraint Thomas to win a stage. I like the lad and he's from around my way. I was getting pretty excited watching that today.

I learnt to love the tour last year, and I'm as hooked as Jenks this year. I'm like Jenks without any of the knowledge about cycling. That's why I never post on this thread. I have nothing to say, except:

-- lovely scenery/nice church/blah blah
-- sheesh what a bend/if that was me I'd have gone straight over the edge/blah blah
-- been there/I'm sure I driven on that road/been there/blah blah
-- fucking hell look at that crash etc etc
-- bad luck Team Sky/bad luck again Team Sky
-- come on Geraint peddle you bastard/come on Brad peddle you bastard
-- heeey where the fuck did Cav come from?*
-- check out the podium girls/phwoar etc

So, there we are, I've said it all.

*this is always a surprise for me.

Great stage. So much to enjoy, I hardly know where to start. They were all giving it 100% but mostly looked like they were actually having fun. Cadel even looked like he might attack a couple of times. Of course, he didn't actually do it but...
