as the triple six thread has turned into the usual nyc golden age versus everyone else nonsense that we often get on hip-hop threads, i think we should do this to show our colours and be as factional as we like without arguing about it

anyway, mine are:

1) Devin The Dude
2) Bun B
3) Biggie Smalls
4) Tupac
5) Ludacris
6) Scarface
7) Ice T
8) Rakim
9) Chuck D
10) Nas

Oh c'mon, arguments are fun. Admittedly, this one has been done to death. Like all the best arguments.

Big L
Slick Rick
Eminem
Ice Cube
E-40
Ludacris
Scarface
Missy
Chuck D (now I've done it....)
Dizzee Rascal

Two mentions of Big Daddy Kane and one of Big L?

I left the topic in disgust!

Big Daddy Kane is about the only MC I can still stand to listen to.
What's wrong with Raw? One of the all time hip hop records.... never heard of Big L though.

anyway....

Big Daddy Kane (so there!)
Tim Dog
Rakim
Paris
Chuck D (for his delivery even though he talked a load of gobbledygook)
Biz Markie
Roxanne Shante

can't think of any more that don't make me reach for the instrumental.

edit: oh yeah keak da sneak, disgusting voice, just to prove i'm not over the hill

Troy you forgot Galliano :p

MY FAVORITE HUE IS JAY-Z BLUE

Noice!

...for me, my favorites (again, by no means who i think is best, but who i enjoy the most):

1. jay z (undissable)
2. ghostface
3. mystikal (i said it...)
4. kool keith (mostly circ. 1986-1996, but there are some exceptions)
5. method man (no longer, but from 36 Chambers thru Tical thru various guest spots, for a few years he was amazing)
6. dmc (probably just for the rush i still get from hearing "i'm DMC in the place to be, i go to st. john's university)
7. ice cube (one of the few rappers who can be consistantly engaging over multiple albums, he was pretty untouchable from NWA thru Lethal Injection)
8. spoonie gee (is not actually that good, but somehow translates well to record in a way alot of other old school rappers don't... )
9. biggie (it took me a while to grow on him, the voice, etc, but no one puts their personality forth on record better than biggie)
10. sadat x (such a weird voice...)

people i'd put on the list if i was doing a "best" list:

melle mel
rakim
dig daddy kane
nas
busta (can be annoying, has never put out a classic album but no one can do more with a 30 second guest spot than him...)
redman (ditto)
pharoah monch (ditto ditto ditto)

i actually had a hard time making this list... so many rappers i enjoy on one or two songs, no matter how good, i don't know if i'd say were "the best" or my favorite...
... plus so many rappers that often get on these lists, i couldn't give a fuck about (big pun)
