Where should I eat in London?

there's no point in stirring now.

in all honesty, if i were you, i'd either never contact this place again, or - if that itch needs scratching - send a short message back thanking him for his reply, apologise for swearing, leave it at that, keep it formal. don't mention anything about the sacking (which is clearly disgusting).
insulting him some more will only give him more satisfaction at this stage, no?

just don't give him any satisfaction basically, if she has been sacked, then an epistolary intervention won't change it. and you don't need to demonstrate to this complete toerag that you care about the welfare of the girl and think it was out of order she was sacked, i'm sure he won't be arsed.

screw him and the horse he rode in on, what a contemptible piece of pondlife.

sacking someone after one bad experience, what a cunt.

With a bit of luck the waitress will be able to find a job in a restaurant run by less of a twat.

It's the most half-arsed apology I have witnessed since my sister scratched my copy of 'Black Sabbath Volume 4' in 1992.

Went to the Curry Leaf on West Green Road near Turnpike Lane last night - it was pretty ace. Indian / Sri Lankan with a good range of stuff like koththu and dhosas and the like. Plus hoppers, which are great. Very tasty and quite reasonably priced (about £12.50 a head for main courses, a couple of sides, more bread than we could eat and drinks). Only downside was that the food took a while to arrive, although I guess that's cooking for you - the service wasn't bad there was just quite a gap between ordering and eating.

hmm.. it's ok.. only just re-opened after about 2 years refurbishing..

nothing particularly sri lankan about the food tho.

take away biryani for 3 quid on a friday is good value.

rah sloane i would feel SO guilty if i was you!

I do! I'm sure I'll get a chain on my soul for it, so not proud of that moment in my life.

On a better note, went to Tom Aitkens last night, posh restaurant chosen for mother-in-law's birthday treat, recommended if you have money to burn and very good for parents type place. Big, simple, food with treats (cauliflower milkshake, a carrot type crisp as amuse bouche), atmosphere well judged for people who would normally feel a bit intimidated by going to a posh place. Not the most exquisite food I've ever eaten - though it was very good. If I had an expense account and had to entertain clients for abroad I'd be there all the time. The foie gras was fucking amazing.

I thought koththu and hoppers were both fairly standard sri lankan? Although I'm no judge of authenticity (suspect not massive, but tasty enough anyway). If you want to suggest somewhere better then feel free...

Mr Piggy on Elephant Road jsut around the corner from Elephant and Castle. Bizarre Colombian place that is cafe, bar, Latin party venue, DVD library and parlour game specialist. Should really go in that thread on out-of-the-way nigthtime venues in London - must find that and restart it.

if you haven't eaten at jashan in turnpike lane then your life is a failure

http://jashanrestaurant.blogspot.com/

ridiculously cheap for the quality of the food.

their lunchtime tiffin menu is the best value food in london

Sounds good - I'm kind of warming to them already on the basis that their website is like a timewarp to 1998. :D

I'm going out tonight for a mate's farewell meal in the Morgan Arms, E3 - I think it's a pretty well known gastropub, and the food is meant to be very good but it is fucking expensive, for what is ostensibly 'still a pub'. I'll report back tomorrow...

Seconded on that, I used to love that place.

Went here :

the same week as Jay Rayner. Didn't like the pork much but had a beef with wild chilli thing which was exquisite. Didn't try any of the dry pot dishes but everyone else there was eating them. Still haven't ever managed to just point at another table and go 'can I have that please?'....willdo one day...

Reliably informed that the Canton Arms on South Lambeth Road (between Stockwell and Vauxhall) has been transformed into a good-food type place, with foie gras and haggis toasties.

Went there the other day and would definitely recommend. It is run by the same lot Anchor and Hope so it's the usual posh people* showing off that they're eating offal, but it is very good. My mate had a poached tongue which, frankly, looked rank beyond belief, but my onglet was very nice. Decent eating beers too.

Another mate had tripe and chips in the Anchor and Hope once, trying to be all old school and dad warfood-like, his crestfallen face when it was clearly fucking disgusting still makes me laugh whenever I think of it.

Any love for Morley's speaking of South London? Also there is a wicked Chinese place in Camberwell or Peckham or somewhere (it's a noodle place) that Gabriel and I went to once. Wish I could remember what it was called. It's probably on here already anyway.

*yes, yes, I know, I am a posh person.

Probably Silk Road on Camberwell Church Street?

Morleys is surprisingly good...i think. But I'm comparing it to KFC, so who knows?

All I can say is, won't be eating there again. My "pork joint stuffed with spinach, camembert, pine nuts, etc. etc." turned out to consist of six little coins of reasonably tasty, although slightly dry, pork, with a little green blob in the middle. Each one made a comfortable mouthful. No gravy or sauce of any kind, the mash was OK but hardly super-abundant and there were some French beans too. For fucking £14.50! Some of my mates seemed to have done slightly better, but I don't think anyone was massively impressed. It's basically vaguely-upmarket gastro-ish food in nouvelle-cuisine-sized portions, at prices you'd expect in some swank West End joint. I'd have complained, but didn't want to be an arse when I was out with a bunch of mates for a housemate's leaving-the-country do.

Drinks are appropriately steep, too. A tip was not forthcoming.
