INA-GRM / Musique Concrete recommendations?

just got my copy of Archives GRM in the mail.

deserves it's own thread and a week to digest, but this and a glass of macallan is the rest of my night...

(the Messiaen is brutally simplistic & relentless but at the same time, it's got something, though you can see why he didn't pursue.) i've reached the point of no return with this stuff though, I kind of love _all_ of it. it's just a matter of how many repeat listenings certain pieces receive.

Ingvar, lovable, on top of things, gushing: http://home.swipnet.se/sonoloco19/grm/grm1.html

dan warburton's unbutchered review here (always have to leave 50-75% of the page free for a pretty picture when publishing in the Wire): http://www.paristransatlantic.com/magazine/monthly2005/03mar_text.html#4

hey woebot, is the rest of that Risset +good (beyond 'Sud')? like $30 good?

been listening to it this morning. its kind of mellow, i remember it being bleepier but there are some great gollopy bleep sounds. $30 does seem like a bit of a steal.

the best thing about that pamphlet (which was kind of endearing, that gang of misfits through the ages) was the shot of the music concrete truck. how cool are these people?

i'm surprised there has been no mention of the recollection grm reissues which have been going on now for two years, or if they have they are too far buried in these threads and i can't find them. i bring them up because one, this is the first proper (an dby proper i mean well executed and well thought-out) release of these things that does justice to the original packaging, and second because the pressings and packaging and general attention to care of the series is fantastic and worth mentioning.

the series is/was sanctioned by ina grm, designed by stephen o'malley of ideologic organ/sunn, the template being a concentric op cube (from ivo malec's triola originally, i think) with different colour and design variations on the basis of the original releases which works very well side by side. i love repetition with variations so this is a visual treat.

the sound is phenomenal and has been a real discovery, in particular on luc ferrari's presque rien which i had only heard in compressed form but which is alive in this instance in a way that immerses completely, pure sound poetry. the releases seemed to have stalled/stopped but i urge you (if you have any interest in this) to track down the releases as they are an achievement and window into often obscure stuff like the risset mentioned above and in the traces series into some very obscure pieces such as janez maticic's hypnos..
