Yeah, both. Leipzig is a good laugh, I don't know if I'd do a whole holiday there, but you shouldn't meet too many tourists (I did, but I went during World Cup '06 - mind you, most of them were Argentinian). Colditz Castle is just down the road, loads of bonkers German people, Lokomotiv Leipzig and also the most insanely designed ice creams I've ever seen - deformed Mickey Mouse heads and nightmare faces, and the like. Got vague memories of a rock club...
Was only in Trieste for a day and a night, the main town square is quite nice and goth-y, but was a bit too quiet and laid back for me. Cool if you like older surroundings and statues...and tourists are probably in the minority too. Actually, the time I went, seemed like people were in the minority.
I'm thinking of going to Madagascar.
