as i'm sure most everyone knows by now, new york state governor elliot spitzer got nailed (!) for soliciting prostitutes and has resigned. my friend in barcelona said "if that happened in spain, it would get him re-elected."

interesting male/female split in reaction: many (not all) women think he should go to jail and burn in hell; many (not all) guys shrug it off as a victimless crime.

one cool outcome: spitzer's replacement is the first-ever legally blind governor!

everyone i know in NYC thinks he is a scumbag and i am not talking about touchy feely indie rock emo dudes... your average working man has NO pity for spitzer...

not b/c of the cheating thing, no one gives two shits about that, b/c Elliot Spitzer is/was the most self-righteous prick of a politician ever...

he had this whole schtick of being hard on crime and even took down prostitution rings, all the while doing this pose of an upright moral crusader meting out divine justice on inferior evil doers... he was a "no mercy" type of dude, and now look at him... another egomaniac brought down by their own stupidity... i mean, an attorney general who doesn't know money transfers of over 10,000 get scrutinized? retard...

he is a phony, sactimonious peice of shit... he should have resigned days ago, but he was bartering his resignation for escape from prosecution... dude, you are elected to serve the people, the governship is not yours to barter...

I think the hypocrisy is what really annoys people. Using prostitutes, not good - using prostitutes while publicly attacking prostitutes and making that your claim to fame is a whole lot worse.

First Foley, now the "luv guv" (top name btw).

It's like some political version of the rule from old whodunnits - the guilty guy is always the one who volunteers to help. Now if only wwe can find some connection between newspapers' campaigning obsessions and their private predelictions we could ban the Daily Mail for ever.

Beast of Burden
the unfortunate part is that spitzer did go after the gilded scum of wall street -- people who *probably* deserved to be taken down -- such that any future firebrand crusader for the "common good" aka "the people" will have to disassociate himself from the memory of spitzer

or is it simply the case that firebrand crusaders are nearly almost always hypocrites of the most towering sort?

or rather, all politicians and corporate leaders are of the kind who doggedly seek money/power/status -- think about, who else goes into politics or climbs the corporate ladder? -- spitzer was no less a creep than the rest of albany -- but since he already had money (father has a $500 million to $1 billion real estate empire), spitzer could pretend to be above the fray -- that was his arrogance -- he need not sully is hands for money, though he shared every other appetite

his arrogance and hypocrisy are what really disgusted people -- i.e., a good ole boy in the mode of bill clinton might well have been given a wink and a nudge and a free pass -- maybe even senator bruno could get away w/ seeing prostitutes == but not spitzer

Is that part of a 'French maid' outfit in the last three photos?

The defence rests, your honour.

Those last three pictures. Heavenly.

But to pay for her company is so sad - it's to admit that she'd never be with you voluntarily.

I'm happily married and all, but I will never let go of the belief that another beautiful woman would want to "spend time" with me of her own free will.

what Peter Gunn said--I actually haven't heard anyone talk about hating him for the prostitution scandal. most people aren't very surprised that i know. and hated him in the first place.

if that's what $55,000/day buys you, you'd think her surgeon would have done a better job with the bridge just above the nostrils. there's some cartilage left that screams "long island" at you from a mile away.

Zhao, you left out the best part:

I am all about my music, and my music is all about me… It flows from what I’ve been through, what I’ve seen and how I feel. I live in New York and am on top of the world. Been here since 2004 and I love this city, I love my life here. But, my path has not been easy. When I was 17, I left home. It was my decision and I’ve never looked back. Left my hometown. Left a broken family. Left abuse. Left an older brother who had already split. Left and learned what it was like to have everything, and lose it, again and again. Learned what it was like to wake up one day and have the people you care about most gone. I have been alone. I have abused drugs. I have been broke and homeless. But, I survived, on my own. I am here, in NY because of my music. It started when I moved in with a musician during my odyssey to New York. One day, I was in the shower singing “respect.” He and his lead guitarist burst in, had me repeat it and it started. We wrote, rehearsed and toured. After recording a bit with them, I decided to move to Manhattan to pursue my music career. I spent the first two years getting to know the music scene, networking in clubs and connecting with the industry. Now, it’s all about my music. It’s all about expressing me. I can sit here now, and knowingly tell you that life’s hard sometimes. But, I made it. I’m still here and I love who I am. If I never went through the hard times, I would not be able to appreciate the good ones. Cliché, yes, but I know it’s true. I have experienced just how hard it can be. I can honestly tell you to never dwell on the past, but build from it and keep moving forward. Don’t let anyone hold you back or tell you that you can’t…because you can. I didn’t and here I am, just listen to it…. What we Want is my latest track. It’s really about trust, something my past has made very difficult for me to feel. This one was inspired by a guy, who taught me not to confuse my dreams with the sounds of the city…I hope you like it.

I don't think there'd be an issue if he'd been soliciting the prostitutes on his own time and dime, the problem is that he misappropriated funds for this, right? I can't be bothered to even follow this story.

I love how the Smoking Gun even has the one hooker's high school yearbook photo. Which only confirms my claim that she's well rhinoplastied. The Lon-GUY-lind "Sweet Sixteen Special"

I always wonder if johns understand that hookers make merciless fun of them, and that it's truly difficult for hookers to muster the ability to pretend to enjoy a trick. (that's why they demand payment, you see...) Is it exciting to know you're so pathetic and disgusting that no one will willingly fuck you? I guess it must be, since men are so eager to part with their money just to experience this sensation.

I highly doubt there's no other way this guy can get laid. He's married, for one thing, and if he'd wanted to have a 'normal' affair I'm sure he wouldn't have had any difficulty finding someone to have one with. You know, the old 'power as aphrodisiac' thing - Christ, John Major managed to have a mistress (although she was also a weird Tory unperson, so perhaps that doesn't count), and plenty of guys a lot better looking and more charismatic than him have been involved in 'call girl' scandals.

So the idea that he simply had no other option doesn't hold water - I can only guess there's some kind of thrill to be had from the illicitness of it.

First, Spitzer is hideous. The only reason I can think of that any decent looking 20-something would have sex with him would be directly related to financial gain, whether legal or illegal.

What exactly was supposedly "abnormal" about the sex he had with hookers? From what I understand he liked to forego contraception, which is just idiotic any way you look at it, but it's hardly "abnormal."

Sure, *maybe* his wife still let him have sex with her, but it hardly takes a gigantic leap of the imagination to envision how bored and boring that would probably be.

My point was not that johns have absolutely no other options, but they certainly do have fewer than young, physically attractive, intelligent men do. There are several global multi-billion dollar industries based on the sexual desperation of men that bear this out.

If there's a "thrill" about the "illicitness" of paying for sex, it's entirely one-sided.
