Oz...

Anyone hear watched Oz? I enjoyed it, even though it was ridiculously stupid.

But watching it recently, I realised how many characters from The Wire were in there (sorry if I don't get their names right)

Herc
Cedric Daniels
Carver
Rawls
Bodie Broadus
Norman Wilson

Anyone seen it?

Dude, you've missed out Cheese aka Method Man - practically the only thing I know about Oz is that he was in it.

I did like Adebisi - my girlfriend tells me he's in Lost, but I wouldn't know cos I don't watch that crap.

My favourite characters were Karim Said, Beecher and Schillinger. Oh yeah Alvarez was good too. Poet was good too, although the more he stayed in the series, the less cool he seemed.

But I think my favourite character was Ryan O'Reilly. He was so bloody smart, playing everyone off against one another. Quirns was funny as well - remember him? DON'T FUCK WITH QUIRNS!!!

every single interview/footage etc of Idris Elba i've seen suggests he complete dickhead to be honest, and actually makes me worried that he doesn't really get Stringer Bell (although i guess he must have done to play him so well...)

yeah, i watched the mr me innit video on youtube and then for some reason decided to watch a clip of him on the tyra banks chat show - tyra is absolutely all over him, she's practically drooling - and he just comes across as a right wally.

That is fantastic. Mad Skillz seems to specialise in that kind of "rap up" stuff - good skill to have...

Just finished the WIre - feel empty - Twin Peaks box set should me fill the void.

Anyone notice the parallel between Prop Jo and Clay Davis???? Between Dukwons pull back into the bad life opposite Marlos pull back?? I know power struggles are juxtaposed and mirrored throughout but I just see a few every now and then in 2 characters that strike me as obvious..... Dostoevsky often had his characters in pairs to correspond to light and dark / good and evil - different side of existential angst.... The Wire sometimes feels like that for me...... like even when the Trial is done its not actually important what happened or who did - just the journey, the endless..... kinda getting nowhere here - agh its late....

What DID daniels DO that was so bad that stained his file??

rip this joint please
having never seen it (apart from bits of one episode) i was sat down yesterday and watched the first two episodes of season 1.

outstanding!

love all the echoes of my beloved Homicide: Life on the Street in there, what with Clark Johnson credits, procedural feel (one episode of H:LOTS once took place entirely inside the squad room as they shot the breeze; the phone rang at the end credits IIRC) and similar advisers with experience in the r/l Baltimore PD etc.
it's impressive - from what i've been told - that pro novelists like George Pelecanos write for it, and not 'just' day-job television scribes.

looking forward to this, and how they will continue to add layers with the different themes each season tackles.
some fabulous characters.

Dominic West's American accent is good, and i like that the cop with the Red Sox cap (Herc [sp?]) has what - to my British cloth ears anyway - sounds like a bit of Bostonian in him.

i've started season 1 of The Shield to refresh myself, as a mate lent me his copy of the season 2 DVD. (i've only seen series 1 of that all the way through.)
i adore that show.

P.S.
i saw Charlie Brooker review Generation Kill positively, which is good enough for me..
