"Volume 1 focuses on the years 1963-1969 (during which time the Doctor was played by William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton) charting the music from the very first episode, taking us through to 1969 when the Doctor was banished to Earth by the Time Lords.

Volume 2 takes us through the 1970s, starting with a new edit of the theme celebrating the introduction of colour to the series and a brand new Doctor - Jon Pertwee. This CD carries on through to 1980 by which time we had been introduced to one of the most famous Doctors - Tom Baker.

With sleevenotes that reveal the secrets of the most well known effect of all time - the tardis taking off - as well as the history of the opening sequences, the package is illustrated by images from the TV series' era."

I have oedered it directly from Tresor and arrived a week ago, pity i didn't had the time other than for a cursory listen. I think, but i may be wrong, that "no ufo" is the remixed 90' version, and pity "I wanna be there (not "i wanna be free!!!!") is the 6 minute edit instead of teh 18 minute monster. But if you don't have the tracks the comps is a must those few quibbles aside.

there were two versions of no ufos m001 and m002 one had future as a b side and one had time space transmat (nightdrive thru babylon as the b side), maybe its one of those, the remix was only on the classics comp on r and s .
well there you go , the uk distys must have got it late eh?

i wish he'd release that retroactive comp, it was hard to get hold of at the time let alone now.
there have also been re-releases of the first 2 electro albums about recently, their legitimacy is questionable tho.
on another digging up the past tip stefan robbers has a new ep out on the newly revived eevo lute and its lovely http://www.warprecords.com/?mart=EEVO2501

    Trojan had just issued this:

I know virtually nothing on Mad Professor, so I ask someone there (Jon Eden?) if they think/know if this compilation is interesting or if i can reverve my hard earned money for something else. Of all the tracklist the Orb and the Massive Attack remiz are the only track I know. Then: Jamiroquay? Perry Farrell?
I remember an Mad Professor compilation on Poptones on which the first stellar track had the vocal hook lifted by Orb for Blue Room.

I always loved Prodigy singles, the albums were a bit patchy. Also this comp contain the original versions of the first album singles, not the album lesser one. A really great greatest hit (and also there isn't "baby got a temper"!). On my walkman for days and days.

It's got some absolute classics on it but also a number of tracks which don't grab me.

Mad Prof remixes of groups you don't like can still be amazing, so don't let that put you off.

The "Blue Room" lift is from a dub version of Aisha's "The Creator" which is included here in its full vocal version and is the main reason I bought it as I can't afford to pay ebay prices for the 12".

Kunte Kinte is the classic riddm which will be known to Congo Natty fans etc. It's not the same as the Jah Shaka etc dubplate though.

50 pence dub is that 50cent tune (the big one?) done steel pan style which I love.

"Deaf Journalists" is a bit of a scathing attack on the music press with a plummy female voice saying things like "That isn't music! It's a good job we're deaf..."

There are also some lover's tunes on there which I like but many won't if my past experience is much to go by!

The rest of it is well worth a listen if you are interested in the development of UK Reggae and/or dub in its various guises. There are other Mad Prof retrospectives about as well and I keep meaning to check them out - especially the one that collects all the "Dub Me Crazy" sets. I would advise people to try and listen to samples online before buying because many people who are conscious or unconscious JA purists don't like Mad Prof stuff.
