They're still hunting some of this lot. One was recently arrested and another two are on the run.

The renewed German police hunt for two alleged members of the Red Army Faction, previously known as the far-left militant Baader-Meinhof gang, who have been on the run for more than 30 years, will continue after an operation in Berlin failed to find the suspects.

Special armed police units launched raids in the Markgrafendamm area of Berlin at 7.30am on Sunday in a search for Ernst-Volker Staub, 69, and Burkhard Garweg, 55.

In an indication of the intensity of the search, 130 officers were involved in the raids and 10 people were detained. All were released after their identities had been checked, the Lower Saxony state criminal police office (LKA) said.

Last Monday a third member of the Red Army Faction, Daniela Klette, 65, was arrested in Berlin.

Well I can only speak for myself but I have managed to do my bit to stand up against injustice - without resorting to terrorism.

I have a similar attraction to a lot of this stuff (when will there be a film about SPK or the Angry Brigade, eh?) but really it is more to do with how spectacularly wrong certain (usually middle class) sections of the revolutionary left can be.

One of the best things I have read on all this is John Barker (of the Stoke Newington 8/ Angry Brigade) reflecting on the errors of his ways in a book review:

Good read, that. The link's dead, but it's still up on the Wayback Machine.

I did actually watch this film a couple of years after this thread and I thought it was quite good.

Stasi funded thugs, that's what they were. That lefty fairytale movie somehow manages to completly omit that fact. That's one thing I don't understand with these kraut communist radicals - why didn't they just move to East Germany?

Fassbinder's one sounds good:

Ooh good this is all going to flare up again

I was enjoying reading the arguments in pages one to three

I quite liked this film, too. As I recall it didn't glamorise them much, it made them look like vicious killers who died miserably.

I also remember reading a Clive James review of it where he worried that it made them look too sexy.

Even if so, I still didn't show the Stasi connections - it made them appear as a gang of nutcases who operated autonomosly. If we had a similar film about Pinochet, for example, and it would ignore the CIA involment and all that - just showing him as a crazed Chilean madman who decided to slaughter socialists - everyone would go mad.

And they'd go even madder if it showed the active KGB support for Allende.

The film made them look absolutely insufferable, those commando bootcamp scenes in Jordan were hilarious

There's a scene in Munich where Bana goes to see some RAF types and they're just sat around pontificating on Hegel, smoking weed and listening to Bill Withers and give him a bunch of names for a wad of cash.
