I ate at the Ocackbashi on SN highstreet which specialises in testicles the other week called...testi. The testicles only came as a main course and I didn't really fancy a whole plate of them so opted for a mixed grill which was great, pretty much up to Mangal 1 standards. Grilled onions in pomegranate juice came as standard and it was less rammed than Mangal if you fancy a longer more chilled meal.

Hackney Council bans Iain Sinclair's book launch, due to his criticism of the 2012 Olympics

Though half asleep at the time I listened to an interview with Iain Sinclair on the today program on Monday morning. Cant find the BBC listen again link but this seems to be the gist of it:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/oct/22/hackney-library-book-ban

This is great and will hilariously backfire on the Council as well as generating more interest in the book and critical comments about the Olympics.

win-win!

That's the funniest thing that's happened so far this week.

goose fat or duck fat

Which is the best fat? Does anyone know if it's legal to poach Victoria Park mallards? Because mallards are extremely tasty, and if there's no law against it, we could be missing a trick. It's a wild duck - I mean the council don't own them, surely?

Has anyone else had letters published in the gaz? I have.

daddy cool ;) i had a letter in praise of a balham chicken and chip shop published in the wandsworth borough news once. from there to the junior spesh blog was a fairly short leap.

useful to know, cheers. i had my first mangal 1 mixed grill recently, it was transcendent. i was glowing with lamb fat for days. so how were the testes then?

I ate sheeps balls for the first time at a greek barbecue a few weeks back, and they were pretty nice. Not at all like you'd expect (ie gristly), more smooth and silky in texture.

I didn't get them cos I couldn't stomach the idea of a whole portion...

I love the meat at Mangal1 but the hurriedness of it all does get a bit much sometimes, they were literally rushing us to order after we had been sat down for barely 60 seconds. The Lamb chops (Pirzola) are just so so nice..

Anyone else attend the magnificent Victoria Park fireworks display last night?

(Magnificent, apart from some of the music: I could've done without having to hear the Beastie Boys half way through.)

I am impressed that Tower Hamlets Council have so much money to spend on blowing up explosives. I mean, it's good. I like these communal festivals, they're very important. Considering how many things they fuck up, it's tremendous when they get some things right (and absolutely T for...)

Let's Talk About Ceps
Yeah, I saw it - well, the fireworks themselves anyway, apparently I missed a big robot made out of recycling bins! So that's where our food waste receptacle ended up, harrumph...

Still, a decent show though. It was good being so near to the launch point, I think I enjoy the sheer noisiness of it as much as the visual aspect, to be honest.

it's a shared TH/Hackney affair, I believe. I live right next door, but didnt go - being raised in Lewes i consider all other bonfire nights to be nothing more than a few sparklers.
