Darned cockwombles.
He's a rapper who was in the hyphy group The Pack. And now is deep into the bloggerati scene apparently, working that internet sensation angle. He gets written up at (and he comments on) Cocaine Blunts. And he has a book!

From the scattered tracks and terrible mixtape I've heard, his new style needs some more time in the oven, which must mean something because I love plenty of lo-fi homemade shit.

thanks - never saw this reply until now!

"Lil B is now a completely pilled out maniac with about 200 myspace pages who wants to collaborate with Jandek.

I'm a fan."

Works for me too

Cool, I used to live in HP and DJed at WHPK for a couple years.

I think some of these footwork battles are at community centers on the West Side... davequam.blogspot.com has been following this a bit, might be a resource.

I used to get overpriced mixtapes at the Bassment on Division & Ashland, never any of the recent pitchshifted teen stuff though. I heard Ford City Mall has some too (plus you can pick up an airbrushed T-shirt while you are there).

hey i'm going to be just north of/in chicagoland in about a week, until dec. 29...i REALLY want to seek out footwork jams...i contacted a guy on imeem but he just wanted to sell me his homemade compilations, which i still might take him up on if he has exclusives i can't bootleg off imeem.
so...any updates on spots to buy dj nate, rp boo, yung tellem, etc etc?

I've moved, but some places you can get juke mixes, to my recollection:

Bassment : 1415 N. Ashland Ave
Ford City Mall: 7601 S. Cicero Avenue
Dr Wax: 5226 S. Harper Ave -- may have closed? May also not have juke, though I got a cracking Slugo mix there back in the day. Might give them a call first. Also check out Hyde Park Records on 53rd and Dorchester if you go to Hyde Park.

I don't remember too much in the way of juke tapes, but if you like classic Chicago dance music, try Gramaphone Records, 2843 N. Clark St. Mostly vinyl, but they have mixes (lots of old school WBMX stuff for sure). I'd ask them where to get the goods, though they might not be privy to the younger stuff. This store's a gem, fwiw.

You can probably get some good shit at the Maxwell Street Market, big flea market type thing, on Desplaines and Roosevelt. Sundays only!

And of course, ask around if you don't find what you're looking for. For a mostly indie shop, Reckless Records clerks can have a wide range of knowledge. Do let us know what you find!

cool thanks; will definitely check those out...for some reason maxwell st. is seeming like the best idea...we'll see what i come up with
and i'll probably end up at gramaphone anyway if all else fails, been before + definitely a great store for a wbmx fetishist like myself

interesting a more edit heavy / freestyle 808 type approach to his music was one thing i thought was something loefah might have done to move forward.

I've really been feeling these bits. It really does sound like a natural progression from stuff like 'It's Your's'. Anyone know who Addison Groove is anyway? is there any chance it is Loefah? haha

I've been listening to that Headhunter mix today too, feeling it.

Not really on the same level as the footwork stuff, but an interesting side angle from Chicago's Latinos.

unless there's been some kind of sleight of hand, Headhunter is Addison Groove. Footcrab, was being IDed as a Headhunter track for quite a while.

I've been ignoring this thread for unknown reasons until Ach! posted the video on the previous page and then listening to that Headhunter mix nomad posted on there also.

Finally got round to skim reading the thread this evening and have downloaded a few of the mixes posted to listen to at work this week.

The Itz Not Rite and Footcrab tracks are doing it for me in a big way at the moment!
