Goody the Musical

mistersloane

heavy heavy monster sound
Act 6

led astray by wicked companions, she erects a burning cross in the garden of the BB house, and calls for Shilpa Shetty to be hung for a tree. The moment she realises how wicked she has been (playbacks with Davina), she is devasted - her inate goodness, floods out, stronger than before.

Oh Shilpa, Shilpa Popp-a-dom
I said those words with such aplomb
But I ne-ver knew they could be mean
- Cos I'm just a girl from Ber-mond-sey!

Very underrated thread. Should be filed next to Owen's superb EastEnders scripts in the Danny Dyer thread.

Bartys point wasn't that this is a classic thread but there is a vicious and unacknowledged class hatred running through the veins of dissensus.

I’m sure that’s true but I think this thread complicates the issue by being about both a particular working class woman AND also about the media portrayal of a working class woman as a cipher.

That's the other side of the coin so you can see how it works.

The snobbery of socialists is well established and uncontroversial. Orwell talks at length about his own snobbery. Equally on the other side a callousness, scorn and cynicism overlaying the fear. So that's how it goes.
