Good tunes by "bad" artists

Yes, to be fair 'The Hardline According To...' is a great album. That was unfair. Produced by Heaven 17, I believe.

ahem err... craner did you know that the devinyls did the soundtrack to a very good nunsploitation film, that you can read about over at the cult films thread?;)

Ha ha, I've got loads of these! You can't stop me!

I didn't know that. It can't be a good thing, though. They're not a good band, I just adore that song. Which film was it? It wasn't one of those German pornos, was it?

Edit: Very funny. I believed you!

'Vision of You' and 'Shades of Michelangelo' by Belinda Carlisle

I like all of her songs, heh. "Circle in the Sand" was my favorite song on the radio for a summer when I was a kid. I actually thought it was a Stevie Nicks song back then though.

'One Of These Nights' by The Eagles.

Gah, I like that song about as much as Hotel California, i.e. not much.

I'd go with I Can't Tell You Why - closer to fitting the idea of a diversion from what they usually do, as well.

'Fade To Grey' and 'Frequnecy 7' and 'The Damned Don't Cry' by Visage.

Which raises the question, how many good songs does a band need to stop being 'bad'?

Because I could produce very long lists of good songs by Wings and Abba. I don't think they're 'bad' bands, but a large voting bloc does.

Eh? How can you hate it? The bassline is beautiful and the whole song molds around it. It's in a different world from the faux-portence of 'Hotel California' - it's a golden breeze, it's them doing Marvin Gaye!

'I Can't Tell You Why' is lovely, though, you're correct.

I hope I haven't twisted this thread too much, I thought the thing was that they did something outstanding as against their otherwise 'bad' or indifferent usual, rather than just something unusual or new (although that obviously counts).

It's just about surprise or distinction, I hope. Because that's much more fun and wide.

Nah, carry on... the idea of something that's going somewhere freaky style-wise too is much, much harder. Can't think of anything, really... well, none I like.

I used to be so into Belinda Carlisle('s music) when I was about 12. Haha. NOT OK FOR BOYS. Man I got some shit. Chiefly from my older brother. :)

A special Abba one, despite my question/qualification upthread, and it is unusual for them (their final single, in the post-divorce torment, doomed and poised) and I'll link it because it's a fine video: The Day Before You Came

Also the weird Euro-anthem Eagle.

(I'll stop with Abba now)

No, wait, this!

This thread is custom made for Marcello Carlin, incidentally.
