school me on deep house

Seached in dusty boxes for it, then found somebody had ripped it already. I think I was completely wrong in my description as the compilation is much later than I thought, and rather than being the definition of anything it's just good. In fact I'm not sure that much of it is even deep house, there's a fair amount of disco influenced stuff too... I may have been thinking of something completely different... what the heck, the link's below:

Andres, is a sorely underrated producer.

Hes done some really great house stuff along with DJ qu from Underground Quality. He has a new album coming out soon, well worth checkin for!

can we have more here?

'been really digging the bits of Kerri Chandler (Ben seems to know all of his best tracks... i've sifted through a lot of others that i didn't like nearly as much), Dennis Ferrer, etc. that are creeping up in people's sets lately, so i think i am maybe interested to hear more about stuff that's going on now...

any good mixes to be found with like minded stuff...

i did try out the Rick Wade and Andres albums, but i wasn't feeling too much... really seems like the sort of thing that would be best sought out in mixes/12"s form... is there a good place to catch some of the stuff David M mentioned up thread in the mix? what about Marcellus Pittmann?

gonna try out this Levon Vincent podcast on RA...

strategy is a guy who does ambient and more rocky stuff but he has several tracks that are house in the detroit beatdown lineage..."i have to do this thing", "world house"...underrated

STL is wicked, little bits of other people in there but done in his in own style, 'Something Is Raw' is a great tune, as his recent one on Smallville:

Obviously I'm gonna agree about Joe Smooth "Promised Land" being one of the must-haves...all-time classic...

I think Global Communications was a good call too...theres some lovely stuff on that Tom Middleton Sound of the Cosmos triple CD that I'd very much term 'deep house'.

I'll add to the mentions for Larry Heard by saying that I think Harry Dennis (whose name I only finally looked up the other week!) is a brilliant vocalist & anything he touches is solid gold: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Harry+Dennis I guess some of the backing is a little dated, but I still love a lot of that album he did with Heard as The It, & there were some great singles as well. His "Bird In A Gilded cage" with Marshall Jefferson is just beautiful.
